I'm amazed at how close my ranking of Nolan films is to the inverse of Rotten Tomatoes' ranking.
Last night, The Tree of Life was wonder-full. Now it's The Straight Story. A glorious pair of films for this poignant sunny weekend.

Went to the intro evening yesterday for Lisa Cradduck's wonderful new exhibition of wonderfully freaky little figures. Main opening is today from 12 til 8pm. It's at St Mary's Tower in Hornsey, a wondrous ancient monument billed these days as 'The Intimate Space'.
A great interview, with some praise from Carpenter (about 46 mins in) for Ennio Morricone's music for The Thing, where he raves about Morricone's deep understanding of the film.

I've known Orryelle Defenestrate-Bascule for around a quarter of a century, but his clay-masking, utterly, darkly surreal performance yesterday at the splendid 'L'Age D'Or' exhibition of art in Hoxton felt like the peak of my experience of his magical creativity.
Walking up the street, I was pondering what to do with the tinned soups I have that are way out of date. As I thought of this, was surprised to see the next house along make a suggestion. Not sure passers-by would benefit, but the synchronicity made me giggle.
Finally saw the new PT Anderson film, One Battle After Another, yesterday at Prince Charles cinema. Overwhelmingly good. I saw another recent PTA film new to me recently, Phantom Thread (great). I thought PTA's age was slowing things. But OBAA seems like his most dynamic work ever. Astonishing.
