Fixed. Had too many rocks languishing in a box, so now I have many office rocks. (and shells and other assorted pretties) my favourite is the one that looks like a squashed bone.

A green wooden bowl with a burnt edge, lined with a muskrat skin and filled with an assortment of small rocks, shells, and driftwood. One of the rocks is a sandy coloured sort of flat cylinder shape, with a bulge partway down that is shinier than the rest of the surface. It resembles the joint between two phalanges from some very large animal.

Looking at this face and reminding her that she is a) 14, and b) black, so no, she cannot stay outside in the sun until her back is uncomfortably warm to the touch may be one of the hardest things I have to do on a regular basis.

Other than the pickles, this is all amazing.

It's almost impressive how deep the NHL's commitment to nullifying everything they say they stand for goes. Do sports leagues have a trust thermocline? Because it feels like they're trying to find it.

Meanwhile in Winnipeg, my parents went for a walk at the Leo Mol garden and encountered a herd of very loud wood frogs. Video doesn't want to post so have an frog, soaking up the warm sun, I'm assuming. Apparently there were a lot sitting like this.

A brown frog floating in shallow water with all four limbs stretched out like a starfish. It is almost perfectly camouflaged against the layer of dead leaves (mostly oak and elm) at the bottom of the clear pond.

I've been wearing these 'Vogs near-daily for four years, and the most obvious damage is the discolouration of the laces. Unless I absolutely have to, I don't see myself ever buying truly cheap shoes again.

A pair of leather and suede skater shoes with black toes, black and white checkered sides with a green swoosh across them, and lime green laces that match the swoosh. The laces are discoloured in places where they've rubbed against the black tongue and the metal grommets, and there is some slight creasing at the bend of the toe, but otherwise they are nearly pristine.

And this, folks, is why you never caulk your toilet to the floor. If you've got enough water on the floor that you're worried about it getting underneath; you've got bigger problems than whatever minor damage that might do. But if your toilet starts leaking and it's all sealed up? Goodbye subfloor.
