What happens if you commission a piece from me?
I work with you to make sure I get the right colour, size and materials. Then I order in the yarn and the knitting commences!
I always keep you updated on progress so you can watch as your item grows!

I knit so many different things that it's hard to pick a favourite! Socks are good for 'on the go' knitting, a jumper and cardigan are lovely big-ish projects to get your teeth into and shawls are just really good fun!

To keep things interesting I like to use different stitches when I'm knitting. You can see this in the bonnets I make!
Sometimes it's a cheeky wee cable, or fancy slipped stitch or even some lace work. Which one is your favourite?

Sometimes you only end up with 1 tomato! And 1 tomato not a tea makes. 🫣

I mainly use acrylic yarns for my baby garments as they can be thrown in the washing machine making them perfect for new parents! If I do use wool yarns for these, I make sure they can also be machine washed. Making them great gifts for newborns.

HandKnics@handknics· Jul 11 It's been too hot to knit too much this week but...
I have still been wearing knitwear! I knitted this top years ago in linen yarn. It just gets softer and softer with each wear. Linen yarn in perfect material to knit with in the hotter months.

HandKnics@handknics· Jul 9 Can you see where the inspiration came for this wee hand knitted cardigan?
It's available now in size 3-6 months but can be made in sizes to fit up to a 5 year old.
Just get in touch for details

HandKnics@handknics· Jul 7 I love working with colours, lots of them. The brighter the better!
I use wool yarns for my hand knits as well as acrylic and cotton so there are a range of options available for different tastes. Customers often ask for a different material so don't feel shy about asking!

HandKnics@handknics· Jul 5 When it comes to gifts, you can send one of my hand knitted items directly. They come gift wrapped and you can even add a small personal message to be included in the parcel. This means they know the gift is from you!

HandKnics@handknics· Jul 3 Like any good knitter, I'm often working on multiple projects at once. At the moment I've a pair of socks on the go, a jumper for myself and a new bonnet for the shop. This keeps my brain and hands happy as they all use different types of yarn, needles and stitches!

HandKnics@handknics· Jul 2 Wee harvest today! One slightly larger than the other 😁

HandKnics@handknics· Jul 1 I'm teaching again in the Autumn so if you fancy learning how to knit and live in the Edinburgh area keep an eye out for the Edinburgh Council Adult Education brochure.

HandKnics@handknics· Jun 28 Sometimes colours, textures and materials just combine perfectly. I think this is what has happened here. The colour of the yarn, the buttons and the lace all fit together very nicely in the cardigan. But it can also be knitted in other colours and sizes.

HandKnics@handknics· Jun 27 This HandKnics design is popular. This version of the bonnet has been restocked on Etsy and was knitted with yarn that contains cashmere. It has such a lovely drape in this yarn making the bonnet sit really nicely on your head.

HandKnics@handknics· Jun 26 I get my inspiration mainly from the colours in my garden. But sometimes other things grab my attention and I think that might make a great knitting pattern/design!

HandKnics@handknics· Jun 26 We're all struggling with the heat in the HandKnics household this week. There has been very little knitting going on!

I'll let you all know when it's ready to be added to the shop!

HandKnics@handknics· Jun 22 Interested in what I made last week?
The colours are not my usual shades!
The design is not following my usual designs...

HandKnics@handknics· Jun 21 This week I was working on a new bonnet design. It is my usual style but I included some new colour patterns. This makes the bonnet slightly thicker so lots of knitting maths has been needed to get the right size and shape!

HandKnics@handknics· Jun 20 It’s been a long week with lots of gallivanting and travelling so I’m taking it easy this morning!
