"Am I not enough of a muse for you?" Céline had joked.
Beatrice had wrapped her up into her strong arms and kissed her temple, smiling warmly—but, no, the question had gone unanswered. Only as Céline watched Beatrice die did she realize that nothing could ever be enough.
Céline passed into the copse of white birch and came to the largest of them all, hacked in half by her brother's chainsaw last summer. Here, in this clearing, Céline began her life's work. The one she realized would never make her famous, would never appear in any museum, but the one that would finally lend meaning to her existence.
In the last frog-croaking days of August, Céline had wrapped her hands, gently, around the circumference of Beatrice's neck while she slept. She felt her pulse, strong and hard under her fingers, and wept. Her handsaw and sandpaper captured the diameter at the top of the sawn birch, then she moved down to the shoulders. By the middle of September, Céline had memorized every mole and freckle on her wife's collarbone, replicated it to perfection on the carving.

We’re going for vibes with this #WIPSnips, although deliciousness can be deceiving…

Secretum desiderium is quite beautiful; all the hues of twilight twinkle across the rocky
surface of its outermost dermis in María's battery-fueled setting sun. A strand of foamy drool
caresses her chin and plops to the cavern floor as her glazed eyes take in its periwinkle ridges, amethyst gullies, black spurs. Its carapace glistens like syrupy rock candy.
Secretum desiderium puffs out another pheromone load, flirtatious. María misinterprets
this as reunion, rummaging through the baffling smells of pastry and pipe smoke for her sampling kit. Her body pitches, staggers, as she places the chisel against the specimen. The edges
of her vision darken. She wants to put her mouth on it— see if it tastes like sweetened condensed
milk.
When hammer meets chisel, a chunk of secretum desiderium crumbles away effortlessly.
