The six winners of the Goldman Environmental Prize, widely known as the "Green Nobel - Alannah Acaq Hurley (US), Borim Kim (South Korea), Sarah Finch (UK), Theonila Roka Matbob (Papua New Guinea) & Iroro Tanshi (Nigeria). This was the 1st time all the winners were women.
This is my uncle, s1c Broadus F. West, who died defending his country & his shipmates aboard the USS Arizona on Dec. 7, 1941, just 2 days before his 26th birthday.
Broadus' remains were never recovered. There is a cenotaph honoring him located in the small cemetery where my grandparents are buried. His grave is likely what of the remains of the USS Arizona.
For his sacrifice, Broadus was posthumously awarded Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal & my family became the first Gold Star family in his small SC town. My uncles & father would later all serve in the military, my father joined the Navy after high school.
