“Before they moved to London, I wanted to get their autographs. So George was in [the office] this day, and I had like autograph book upon autograph book for him to sign, and mine — I slipped mine in the middle. So he’s signing them, and I’m saying, you know, ‘That’s to Rita, that’s to Barbara’ […] and it gets to mine, and, ‘Who’s this to?’
And I said, ‘Well, just — just sign that,’ because I just wanted it out of the way. And he went, ‘Well, no, who’s it to?’ And I think it was because I was going, ‘It doesn’t matter, just sign this.’ I remember saying to him, ‘Just sign the book, just sign the book!’ And he flipped it to the front, and he went, ‘It’s yours!’ And I went, ‘Yeah, I haven’t got your autograph, I just want your autograph before you go to London.’

Marie Guirron, from Birkenhead (pictured on the left, taking part in a Queen of Beat competition in Liverpool in September 1963; she won the title) and George Harrison dated during the summer of 1962; she was 18, George, 19). Marie — her name is given as Anne Marie Guirron in an article in The Daily Sketch about the Queen of Beat completion.

“‘We wore everything black for the Beatles. Black jackets, black polo-necks, black jeans, total beatniks. I fell for George the first time I saw the Beatles, in Birkenhead, so I always sat on the far left at the Cavern because that’s where he stood’ [says Marie]. [...] ‘Where [do you work]?’ George asked, one lunchtime in the Cavern, and when she replied ‘the Cotton Exchange’, he said, ‘Oh, do you know Jim McCartney?’
She did, both from work and a drop round to Paul’s house. So they carried on chatting, then George announced he’d pick her up in his car when she finished work that afternoon at half-past five. ‘That’s how it began,’ she says, ‘we just started going out. I was soon head over heels for him. I thought he was the best thing since sliced bread. He was handsome, had great charisma and was very gentle.’
[...] [George] drove her to Beatles shows and gave her the keys [to his first car, a Ford Anglia] when they arrived; afterwards, she’d wait by the car while he signed autographs, then they’d drive off for something to eat, or go bowling.
