Weird Route + other misc thoughts.

+WHAT THE FUCK TOBY

+Going into this route, I had always kinda disliked the fan interpretation of Noelle becoming evil and wanting to do le genocides on the Weird Route. Thankfully, what we got is not to that extent and it is actually a rather interesting look into Noelle as a character. Hopefully more will be explored in regards to that side of her further down the WR or maybe even in the normal route.

~Lowkey hoping that the game doesn't pull an Undertale Geno thing where the game permanently taints all of your save files as "punishment" or something. 😭

+Everything else about the Weird Route is so fucking sad dude. The way Susie acts up until you split off from her is heartbreaking. Really hope we don't get see the enotional aftermath of all that from her point of view.

+Everything involving Sans this chapter is so fucking weird dude, what the hell is his deal.

~I'll be interested to see how Aborted weird route plays out since Noelle is going to seemingly be more prominent from now on. It'd be weird methinks for the game to just not acknowledge it.

+I mentioned in my previous post that I didn't really vibe with Flowery as an antagonist. But I think now that I've had time to reflect on it, I think my view on him has become much more positive and the issues I have really only stem from how he acts in the first half of the chapter. By the end of the chapter, his motives and overall character are probably the most interesting out of all the chapter antags we have so far. There's something about the concept of a good-hearted hero of another story using their own power of friendship to take you down that is really compelling.

+Flower Man has quickly become 2nd favorite boss theme behind TV Time! It might've been number 1 if it had any actual vocals because the song really benefits from it.

Ran out of room in first image. Last few thoughts in here:

-I think my only qualm with the chapter was the lack of overall story progression, or at the very least, new information to chew on until next time. Yeah, there were some story reveals and exposition but alot of it didn't feel like new information. Asgore repeatedly mentioning "that tragic night" without elaborating got old after like, three times. Yeah man, we know you went crazy trying to fix things, we knew that last chapter...

Obviously I don't mind that this was more of a character-focused chapter and there's a strong narrative here regardless, but I worry that the two chapters are going to be juggling a lot of loose threads. Obviously, I trust Toby and his team to deliver and then some, but it is a thought at the back of my mind.

+This probably goes without saying, but the soundtrack's got a lot of bangers. All of the new battle and overworld tracks are *chefs kiss*

~ As a longtime rider of the friend inside me / woody theory brainrot train, it's bittersweet to see it finally be put to rest. That said, Yellow literally looking like a piss-colored Woody is enough for me to consider it a win for the woody deltarune believers.

...I guess you could also count Mad Mew Mew as having a friend inside her, but ehhhh whatever.

Took all afternoon, but I completed the main route of Chapter 5 last night. Various thoughts in alt text. Spoilers obviously.

Finally, after too many tomorrows, Chapter 5 is here! Here's my thoughts:

+The normal DR gameplay is as fun as ever and chapter 5 is imo where it's most fun with all the new mechanics. I'd even go as far to say that I lowkey prefer the 2D sidescrolling gameplay over the normal stuff lol.

+The new regular enemies are all fun! A lot of them are tough, but still fun to fight!

+Besides Flowery, the 6 colored flower characters are all so fun and memorable. Sad how their story ends tho. Hope they can show back up one last time before the end of the game.

+This chapter is hella funny at points. Maybe not as consistently funny as 2/3, but definitely up there.

+Secret boss is tough as shit, but definitely one of most fun and unique fights in the game. I was a little apprehensive of the idea of another secret boss being another UT character, but I think I can make the exception here.

+Overall, I think might be tied with or a very close second to Chapter 2 for the title of favorite chapter. Might need a replay to really solidify that though.

~Flowery imo is kinda a mixed bag because while he is funny and well written, he kinda just feels like the dollar-store love child of Queen and Tenna. On top of his character design just being kinda meh, he's servicable enough as a chapter antagonist. The wild shit he pulls at the end of the chapter was fucking crazy tho.

~On a similar note, his boss fight is really epic, but the new soul mode felt a tad bit jank and unintuitive as a gimmick for a major boss fight that punishes the fuck out of you for getting hit.

~For something that had been built up since Ch. 2, the festival was kind of a nothingburger. Don't get me wrong, that yuri content be bussin. But there surprisingly wasn't much else to it.
