Finished this book while waiting for the fourth book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series to become available. The contrast between the series is night & day, while both touch on severe social inequalities & the way they restrict/affect lives, with a little political intrigue. #BookSky 📚
Just finished this book while reading it to my kids. We started from the very beginning, and we do it slow. So it's been a solid year of the Hitchhiker's series playing a part in our bedtime tradition Now I really understand when we say something has a very special place in our lives. #BookSky 📚
Just started this book this week, and I'm already aware of a factual error about the Chile data center's water usage going in. So far, it's an accounting of the company's birth interspersed with more recent drama, and some themes are already flashing in my head. #BookSky 📚
Sometimes, a book series is a lot of fun simply because of its community. I've been having some lovely conversations on other apps since I started this series. That's not all that's interesting about the series, not by a long shot. But its a huge reason I'm enjoying it so much #BookSky 📚
I already mentioned this book yesterday, it was a wild ride. Now that I finished it, I get the feeling, if you're from the LGBTQIA+ community, you may not appreciate it as much? Because it's about your experiences, without centering you, if that makes sense? Please correct me if I'm wrong #BookSky 📚
My biggest takeaway is the Behind The Scenes network that existed at that time of no phones or media. That network among free Black people was a chief reason that enabled young girls like Ona Judge to escape, more than once. That is community. #BookSky
As much as I'm not going to do much to expand my post reach, it's nice when it happens. So, #BookSky, I love that I could find fellow fans, or future readers of the latest book I enjoyed. Hope to connect more with your thoughts too
I gave up so much sleep to finish this. Not one regret, despite my aging eyes 😂 I'm still unsatisfied. Need to savor the words again. Slowly Also, yay to reddit book discussions - the context some readers pulled from the book are fascinating. The authors left so much for us to contemplate #BookSky
Fell for the hype & read book 1 y'all Started out thinking its a less serious Hunger Games knockoff for videogamers - still do, but its more too Turns out Dinniman ran art booths at pet shows - which explains Princess Donut's appeal. He drew them show cats like French girls & *knew* them #BookSky
My choice of Music and Books are like my ADHD - all over the place. Except that its a good thing in this case 👀 (1) is the book I finished. (2) the book I started. #BookSky 📚
So everyone is celebrating that Pratt lost his second place in the LA Mayor run. But allow me to celebrate the woman who put him there - Councilwoman Nithya Raman 👇(image from Wikipedia)
The second half of this book guys... A shoutout to Prolonged Grief Disorder? 🤌 Black women connecting with their ancestors? 🤌🤌 Comparing magical power hoarding (so common in fantasies) to colonial power hoarding 🤌🤌🤌 This is why I need more books by the Global majority #BookSky 📚
My first Climate fiction read, The Ministry For The Future, opens with a nightmare setting: Almost the entire Deccan region of India crossing "wet bulb" temps of 33°C (91.4°F) resulting in a catastrophe climate scientists have feared for a while This is no longer fiction #ClimateChange #BookSky
Yes, oppressed groups critic our religious practices from INSIDE the system - To challenge that oppression. (Even those groups find solace in the spirituality) But you can't come into our world from your priveleged seat and appropriate our world for your erotica And yeah, of course she is #BookSky
The most disturbing book I've read in recent memory Kudos to the author for risking her whole book with the darkness of humanity Dark, yet too real. Insecurity, cowardice & ingratitude are in every one of us Thats the real threat of technology - it's abuse at the hands of our insecurity #BookSky
I started reading diverse fiction as an adult only since last year (or two?) so my favorites are a rather small list But, here are a few of my favorite books by Asian (South, East & West) authors that I felt brought their world & it's traditions to life. Hope to grow this list in time #BookSky 📚
Y'all... I'm crying at the epilogue hearing Nate Love Jr living a full life. Shattered, I tell ya. It's been a while since a book did that to me #BookSky #Audiobooks #BlackRage #DisabilityRepresentation
You know what I did instead of watch violent videos that push an agenda? I made a kickass black bean salad. Protect your hearts my friends. Protect your souls.
I'm almost always late to the shows that rock the entertainment. Usually get to them a couple years after they're all the rage... The latest show I got to this way: Blue-Eye Samurai Probably one of the most visually beautiful shows I've seen this year. #Animation #Movies
I got into a reading block after having such a rich September... and I usually binge on a few Romances to get me out of that slump. Romances are also a major source of comfort during an ADHD burnout. I think these did it for me. #BookSky
"That's what I learned from them - it's not safe to be different."....“I pushed you to change because I wanted you to be safe. Do you understand?” As a South Asian ADHDer, this book hit me hard. "I cry for the girl I used to be. I cry for me." #BookSky #CulturalStigmas #Neurodivergence
The way this hit too close phew! What got me was what most reviews complained about - the heroine's piling lies in the workplace. Lies born from experiencing prejudice, anxiety, chronic people pleasing, imposter syndrome, fear, & the baggage of our past. Trust me, that was too real #BookSky
The most common criticism for this series I've seen is the "absurd" premise - "Oh no one could POSSIBLY treat teenagers like this" And I bet the critics just don't know how teens are treated in foster care systems, "behavioral modification" programs, & juvenile detention centers - *today* #BookSky
Books are rarely perfect. But a very imperfect book can still leave you with the most perfect feelings... And the cultural references & places feel so lived in 🤌 Still feeling the feels hours after finishing this one #BookSky 📖📚
Before Pride month ended, I got to finish "I will Greet the Sun Again" by Khashayar J Khabushani - the fact he's an Iranian author, was divine coincidence Among audiobooks... coming of age books have felt the most comforting to me, like a weighted blanket for the ears. Like this one. #BookSky 📚📖
