This photo from guardian article. “Martin Harvey, 75, who worked in engineering, said he “has been Labour all my life”, but concerns about immigration meant he turned to Reform in May, and plans to stick with them”. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
GOD’s Gym in UB. Not been in but the exercise machinery must be interesting. ‘Stairway to heaven’ anyone? Or perhaps the ‘weights of sin’? Maybe the ‘treadmill of faith’?
RTT waits show deep regional inequality. Patients in London often start treatment within 12-14weeks for a major condition while in North East and Yorkshire can wait 20+ weeks for Crohn’s, musculoskeletal and mental health. NHS support to patients during this wait is also very variable.
Social media: two mirrors, one dark one light. Millions of young people report that social media has a negative impact on their mental health. But also similar numbers say it has had a positive impact on their mental health.
IPPR published a graph on NEETs yesterday that shows just the post Covid rise in NEETs. But ,aside from Covid years, NEETs have been at pretty similar levels for over 20 yrs. A significant difference nowadays is NEET is more likely to be recorded as due to mental illness than actual unemployment.
Interesting to see migration patterns within the greater Manchester region.Thousands of poorer families have moved out from central areas as regeneration housing became expensive. Moved to poorer areas in North Manchester and wards like Broughton in Salford or out as far as Oldham and Rochdale.
Yes they can move. This graph shows destinations and numbers for UK trained nurses. Note the big peak around Brexit and post covid
Mongolia has seen a tremendous boost in life expectancy since 1998 when I first came here from around 62yrs to 70.5yrs.The economy also changed from a collapsed soviet dominated communist system to something of a free booting capitalism. But public health has provided a significant lift
Big health and food fairs in Suhkbataar Square, UB Mongolia today. Large blue skies, warm and sunny. Difficult to believe that only few days ago it was high winds taking temp down to -24c
Giant picture and videos of Epstein and Trump projected onto Windsor Castle
Demonstration in Manchester today on Palestine and Israel’s genocidal war. From the river to the sea’.
District festival in Ulaanbaatar city today. This was stage outside the Art College
Our visit yesterday, to the Gandan Tegchenling Monastery Centre of Mongolian Buddhists in Ulaanbaatar.
Lion Bridge in Ulaanbaatar Mongolia. First photo taken in September 1998 Second photo taken in March 2025. Both photos taken at same road crossing by me. Those are not parked cars in second photo and mountains have disappeared high rise buildings.
Out in Suhkbaatar Square, Mongolia this afternoon, admiring the ice sculptures.
Budget increases to NI have disproportionately impacted on lower paid workers. Expect that to result in redundancies and job recruitment freeze effecting the poorest and most vulnerable workers as businesses like Sainsbury (announced 3000 job cuts today) seek to maintain their profit margins
This is a purpose built block of supported living flats -at least 3x >. than photo -stood empty for almost 20years. The CC built 10 purpose built bungalows up the road 5 or 6 years back - presumably as a sort of replacement. Tip of iceberg as councils around country chase pots of government cash?
