If Halifax were ever serious about vision zero, the stop line should be at least 1m further down the road and there should be no unprotected turns.
For a major intersection of this city, it looks too empty. But also this is a great spot for a bus terminal.
That manhole cover was also jumping. I have a feeling we're gonna have flooding when there's more rain. But also, the existing water control infrastructure needs a lot of improvement.
Idc what anyone says but automated trains are the best and Halifax should build one line over the existing CN ROW. 5min headway is freedom. And also, a stream with trails underneath is so satisfying.
Halifax in a different universe. Just kidding, I much prefer the quiet Halifax. But I'd very much like more medium density and cool things. (Gwanganli, Busan)
Automated subways are cool. Extremely reliable when coupled with platform screen doors at every station so that unauthorized people can't randomly enter the track level.
Softshell turtles live here. Along with many other fishes. The key point here is to create a clean and sustainable environment for wildlife.
Urban streams are cool, literally, and they also become emergency waterways in case of flooding. Me thinks lots of Canadian cities should take a look at revitalizing buried streams and provide cooling places for people. I still think Halifax should get serious about this wherever possible.
Taking a premium intercity bus for a 152km trip. Costs about $18 one-way. Comparable prices to Canada's most commuter train & bus fares. Intercity buses are operated by the private sector, and competition in transit is great for everyone. Seats are also comparable to domestic flight business class.
Medium density commercial zones surrounding a pedestrian zone. But also very rare sight of dockless scooters and ebikes parked properly.
(ii) is the biggest struggle lol. There are solutions but I'm not too sure if Halifax planners would get that aggressive with bus lanes. They're still giving mostly suburban dad planner vibe.
Good luck calling this BRT when the heavy traffic is going to slow down the buses. Joe Howe ramp, 102 to Bayers and Armdale, MacDonald bridge, all that major choke points. We're never gonna reach 20% transit modal share with this plan.
TOD from an interchange station between High-speed rail and subway. The metro population here is 1.1m, comparable to Calgary and Edmonton.
Even Korea's first modern tram line has enclosed stations with HEATED benches. I don't understand why Metrolinx couldn't do this when our winters are more brutal. www.youtube.com/shorts/rVW8n...
KTX of Korea also has way too many stations even when the regular intercity trains serve them, thanks to YIMBYs that were empowered by politicians trying to win the seat. Here's top 10 and bottom 10 stations by ridership.
