To keep measles under control, about 95% of kids need to be vaccinated. Few parts of the country are hitting that target.

The outbreak is past the halfway mark to the 2018-2020 North Kivu-Ituri outbreak, the 2nd largest on record. Nearly 12,000 case contacts were ID'd on 7/8, and ~79% followed.

In recent days, confirmed case counts — ie the cases that are coming to light — have risen by the dozens. Long road ahead.

The percentage of case contacts being followed continue to rise, which is good news, but the number of known contacts per case remains too low.

Last week, 2 more deaths were reported, bringing the year-to-date total to 184. Previously CDC has estimated that about 85% of those kids were not fully vaccinated against flu. So much tragedy.
