That’s the crux of the issue. I believe it won’t taper down with reducing consumption; I believe the oil’s existence will be a reason to postpone facing out fossil fuels, and the executives and politicians in charge that day will be pushing hard to get everything up and create shareholder value.

The highlighted sentence could do with a reference. There may indeed be an independent study supporting it, or the complainants may have invented it.
