Saw some outlet flow measurement structures today

A V-Notch weir in a concrete structure enclosed in the ground. Treated wastewater flows over a metal plate with a V shaped notch in it. There is a copious amount of moss, algae, and even leafed plants clinging to the sides on the downstream side where the water falls below and splashes, a lot like a natural waterfall. A few instruments and probes are stuck in the upstream side. This one in particular is for a roughly 1 million gallons per day facility.

A Parshall flume set deep in a concrete structure. Treated wastewater flows between the narrowing throat walls before dropping in elevation to give the flume measurement. Numerous instruments and conduits are run down to the water level. A large amount of moss and algae line the sides of the flow channel above the water level. This structure is for a roughly 10 million gallon per day facility.

There are tons of coatings that are made to go directly in much nastier water/fluids than some dilute peroxide and a few algae. And I’m pretty sure you can color them whatever is desired. The pic is orange just so that the guys in tyvek suits spraying it on have an easier job
