Actually, the 1992 movie about Father Daens has been restored and was shown in movie theatres in Belgium this (2026) Spring. Done by a group of enthusiasts in a non-profit called Avila. Fascinating, I was not aware of that. avilafilm.be/en/film/daens @begov.skyfleet.blue @dragoman.bsky.social
Maybe some of these books can help? Somerville (1933) and Vidler (1964) are somewhat dated, but Misner's work is probably the best that exists on the theme, so far. Father Adolf Daens is also an interesting figure in this context. A movie about him was made in 1992.
Meanwhile, the "winner" in all this is China. The leaders in Beijing must be veeeery pleased.
Interesting to see the very different covers of the, U.S. and the international, editions of Time Magazine from 27 July. Is the Dalai Lama too much for U.S. readers? Is Time worried about a reaction from the embassy of China in the U.S.? time.com/article/2026...
¿Cuándo va a alzar la voz la izquierda en todo el mundo contra esto? #Nicaragua
While the press in Argentina give thanks to their team, and especially, and well deserved, to the 'eternal' Messi😇
Several Spanish newspapers are (in)directly mocking president Trump's need to be in the spotlight on their front pages today.😂
Found it! It was actually a memorandum by Kissinger to Nixon 22 July 1969 (not the conversation I first thought) on "CIA Study on the Church in Latin America". Links to the memorandum and the CIA short 'study👇 Links to the actual documents in pdf in alt-txt. tinyurl.com/4tnx2z7b tinyurl.com/yt2by68f

"The social sciences are not the norm for theology, since the latter is based on the message of Jesus Christ in the gospels and on the teaching of the Catholic Church" - Karl Rahner, S.J.
You're spot on, Owen! Leading liberation theologians tried to explain this over and over again, but were not heard; neither by the Church nor by secular commentators. Further, it is frustrating when people with little to none theological competence label liberation theology as "overheated Marxism".
Liberation theology is not a "Marxist interpretation of Christian theology"! That claim is taken straight out of Cardinal Ratzinger's (late Pope Benedict XVI's), and the enemies of liberation theology's playbook. The claim has been debunked so many times, but still lives on, so it seems.😭
This came out in Portuguese in 2024. By the great Frei Betto. www.livrariavozes.com.br/jesusrevoluc...
Hard question. As far as I am aware of, there are no commentary (in English) by Latin American liberation theology on Luke. A good, but dated, work is by Richard J. Cassidy, but it is not from LAC. Sobrino is perhaps close, but then again not a commentary on Luke. Gadenz is great! Bibl. in alt-txt.
Or you could have made a reference to Saints John and Paul. Why do you lift #Escrivá and Opus Dei up as models? Is that the message you want to give in times of Trump??? www.passiochristi.org/biografia-de...

Interesting, but uneven essay by historian Nolan @bostonu.bsky.social. Quite good on some of the various challenges that #Sheinbaum faces; weak on the political context of the ongoing grip by old PRI now reborn in Morena. Miss the attacks on free press and NGOs. Guardian, 13. jun26, p.8-11. #Mexico

En tan solo tres horas, #México y #Sudáfrica se enfrentan en el primer partido del Mundial de 2026. #M26 La prensa mexicana celebra, y algunos (con razón) temen que México pierda. Ojalá México logre la victoria, pero no será fácil. Mexicooooooooooo⚽⚽⚽

John Ford's (1947) version of The Power and the Glory. Also an interesting version, and John Ford is John Ford.
"No hay #democracia real si el partido en el poder puede perder una elección y luego decir que la derrota fue producto de una opinión extranjera". Debería hacer reflexionar a todas las personas, tanto de izquierda como de derecha, sobre lo que está sucediendo en el mundo. #Mexico #4T
