Plums sucked. Peaches will suck. But the grapes did fabulous this year.
Here are two of them still in a nest in my apple tree. They’re barely thumb sized!
Had to share! These dove nestlings in my apple tree are about as big as my thumb!
My goslings are still attached to me, so if I get much closer than 100 feet they will break their cute family pose and run toward me.
I can’t post the before picture because it is too gruesome. Wrapped-garroted by long fine dog hair, one foot is missing two toes, the third is ‘iffy’. The other foot has lost one toe and is so swollen and lacerated I don’t know how the whole thing hadn’t fallen off. Been 5 days, much improved!
I had 2 pigeons for surgery today. 1 broken leg, and the other had two feet bound together by dog hair. I am more hopeful the the broken leg bird. But they are in the hospital suite now. The standing one has the broken leg, the flat one - feet may not be salvageable but I’m doing my best.
It has taken a lot of work to get these incubated, human-imprinted goslings to accept each other and a goose as their regular mom. Nearly a month, sleeping with a gosling in my bed, cleaning poo, fending off evil adults, feeding 3 different diets. Not recommended for the casual enthusiast.
