I lost my mom to Stage 4 15 years ago. She didn't get colonoscopies as she had abdominal scans annually for an issue with her liver. She thought that was enough, and it was not. Colonoscopies are the gold standard for detecting AND preventing colon cancer! Sending good/healing vibes your way!

Graphic poster created by the National Parks Service, inspired by the viral video of reporter Deion Broxton - then working for NBC Montana KTVM - responding to a bison starting to approach him during a stand-up at Yellowstone National Park on March 25, 2020.

In the original video, Broxton is standing near the Roosevelt Arch at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park, starting to countdown into a clip on how the pandemic had closed the park. Looking off camera, he saw a single bison separating from a herd heading his direction, and he immediately stopped and said "Oh my God...oh my God...Oh, no, I ain't messing with you" as he walked out of frame. The video then changes angle as he picks up his camera to put it in the back of his car.

The poster created by NPS uses his quote "Oh no, not messing with you". The poster is mostly dark brown with a thick off-white border. The quote is in large, all-caps text in the same off-white, covering the top quarter of the poster. The middle half of the poster shows the outline of a bison over a smaller outline of the Roosevelt Arch. The bottom quarter of the poster reads "Wildlife Safety" in a smaller version of the same off-white, all-caps font of the quote. Underneath in a subsequently smaller version of the font printed in gray, text reads "US Department of the Interior" and "National Park Service" with an outline of a bison in between the two blocks of text.

Walked by the Columbus plinth today and can confirm it's still empty 6 years later.

Photo taken around 2:30 pm Central Daylight Time on the grounds of the Minnesota State Capitol in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Taken from the sidewalk on the western side of Cedar Street, just below the Aurora Promenade in the Upper Mall at the base of the Capitol Building. The phone faces the western wing of the building, with the plinth for a statue in the foreground. The plinth is surrounded by stone work with stairs from the sidewalk, and contains benches.

The plinth for the statue is empty.

Although the Meridian Hill Cascading Fountain reopened in May, the National Park Service continues to fine tune the fountain’s operations. The brown water is sediment as a result of the reopening of two water lines that had been out of service for some time. We expect the water to once again run clean in the next 24 hours.

Strawberry sandwiches are a definite thing to make again. We loved both but give the edge to the original with the mascarpone whipped cream. The berries just shine brighter. 🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓

I think my husband & I will stick to getting a charcuterie board. olives, & some occasional bruschetta at Lake Wine Kitchen. My husband gets a glass of wine, I stick to water/soda, and with a tip we're comfy and well fed under $70. Mall-area bathrooms are right across the way and perfectly nice.

So when Fatime Elrgdawy’s friend told her about an online message from the U.S. president-elect hyping the launch of his own crypto coin – “GET YOUR $TRUMP NOW” – she thought: “Oh my God, this is brilliant.”

If Trump was putting his name behind it, Elrgdawy recalls thinking, “it must be a legitimate investment.”

The 29-year-old software project engineer in Santa Barbara, California, put $2,000 of her savings into the $TRUMP meme coin – a purely speculative crypto token whose value is often driven by social media hype. All that remained, she thought, was to sit back and wait for the price to climb.

Actually, the worst thing you can be in Minnesota is a resident without a strong opinion about the State Fair.

Also, I always loved how at the AFL-CIO Booth at the 2023 MN State Fair - the year they staffed with muscular firemen in various stages of bare-chested attire - they posed somewhat stiffly with Amy. But seemed quite happy to be more playful with Tina Smith a day later...

I don't get the fries either. Or Sweet Martha's cookies. I grasp it's a solid deal for a family - lots of cookies in a compact package - but they aren't very good. I miss the Lingonberry Ice Cream. That was my go-to dessert for years.

...I love my rower but man, am I glad it has wheeled feet and can live upright for a few days. Otherwise moving it around and keeping it out of the way would not be doable. The machine is about 60 lbs and then it's another 40 lbs of water. Wheels and an upright storage configuration are key!

If you've never been to the Cathedral of St. Paul, Pope Benedict visited back when he was merely Cardinal Ratzinger. He said if it had been located in Europe it would be one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe. It is so very old school - an utterly magnificent Beaux Arts masterpiece.

The sanctuary, where the altar is located, is the focal point of the interior. [Architect Emmanuel Louis] Masqueray created a rough sketch of a main altar, but died before construction began. His friend Whitney Warren, best known for his design of Grand Central Station in New York, was commissioned to create the grand high altar. The marble altar is surrounded by an ornamental structure called a baldachin. At its base are six monolithic columns of black and gold marble, each 24-feet high and weighing almost eight tons. A bronze latticework canopy, which includes two angels and a sculpture of Saint Paul, rests on the pillars. The dome's seven stained glass windows each represent a sacrament: Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, Matrimony, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick. Surrounding the sanctuary are massive bronze grilles, with depictions of the life and ministry of Saint Paul on the top, as well as of various angels and saints on the main sections.

The interior dome of the Cathedral, 96 feet in diameter and 175 feet high, is just as impressive as the exterior, copper-clad dome. Warm-colored paint and gold leaf were added during a major dome renovation in the 1950s. The 24 stained glass windows of the angelic choirs, combined with the eight-pointed chandelier, bathe the church in light. Four massive piers support the dome. At the top of each pier is a 25-foot-high mosaic, each with an angel representing one of the four cardinal virtues: Prudence, Temperance, Fortitude, and Justice. At the base of each pier is a 12-foot statue of one of the four Gospel writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The symbolism here is unmistakable - just as the piers uphold the Cathedral, the Word of God upholds the Church.

So these are two of my absolute favorite pictures from my wedding. (I grabbed the photographer and said "GET THIS." 🤣) The second photo was my mother's favorite, because he was ever so politely SCHOOLING her. She ultimately conceded that he was, in fact, Catholic.

Went to the Aldi in WSP - the demo appears to be underway at the old L&B in downtown St. Paul, so time to get used to them. I brought my Playmarket cart since it fits so nicely in the backseat of my car & I got SO many looks. Jealousy? Side-eye for not paying my 25¢ deposit? Not sure, but amusing.

The cart has a cube-shaped fabric body in red fabric with black mesh pockets on the side. It is attached to a silver and black collapsible/folding frame similar to a baby stroller.

There are two double-wheels on the front attached to the frame of the cart; there are two single wheels connected by an axle in the rear. There is a black U-shaped handle extending up above the cart with hinges at the base so the handle can be folded down for storage.

Turns out they still had them for sale, so we went ahead and bit the bullet and bought Bombe and Enigma. They just arrived today and we're really excited, because we're geeky that way. But also, we bought their newer Alan Turing Tribute print by artist Justin Eagleton, because why wouldn't we?

At the end of the day we hit the cafe/gift shop, and were faced with these very cool prints that were celebrating the 10th anniversary of TNMOC, which had opened in 2007. Already framed, we couldn't bring them home on the plane, but we decided to have two of them shipped back to us.

You would think, but HIPAA violations can have hefty fines and/or criminal penalties, so probably not worth it. (I'm guessing leaking info about Trump out of a military hospital would be immediately considered criminal.)

In cases of noncompliance where the covered entity does not satisfactorily resolve the matter, OCR may decide to impose civil money penalties (CMPs) on the covered entity.

CMPs for HIPAA violations are determined based on a tiered civil penalty structure. The secretary of HHS has discretion in determining the amount of the penalty based on the nature and extent of the violation and the nature and extent of the harm resulting from the violation. The secretary is prohibited from imposing civil penalties (except in cases of willful neglect) if the violation is corrected within 30 days (this time period may be extended at HHS’ discretion).

Penalty range: $100 - $50,000 per violation, with an annual maximum of $25,000 for repeat violations

HIPAA violation: Reasonable Cause

Penalty range: $10,000 - $50,000 per violation, with an annual maximum of $250,000 for repeat violations

I grew up on the Mid-Atlantic seaboard, but after 20+ years between Western WI & the Twin Cities? Damn straight I'll workout outside when it's 40F, clear, and calm. Wearing nothing but a hoodie, leggings, & an ear band (mostly to keep my earbuds in). That's just perfect, balmy cardio weather!
