Statue of Dainichi Nyorai, the Great Sun Buddha, made in 1176 by Unkei. Earlier this year we went to Enjoji temple near Nara to see this statue and hike the Yagyu Kaido trail. Unfortunately, the statue had been removed for an exhibition. Maybe next time! commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Da... #japan
Yokihi Kannon, Sennyuji Temple, Kyoto. I was lucky to see this statue of the Bodhisattva of Compassion earlier this year. Brought in the 13th century from China to Japan, it was later named after the legendary Chinese beauty Yang Guifei. The image is from a postcard sold at the temple. #kyoto #japan
