Finally caved and bought myself a wee CD player I’ve listened to more albums in the past week than I have in the last 6 or 7 years Just have to get back up the loft and find the box with the rest of my CDs in it (of which there are many)
The recent blueberry harvest came at a price. Already knew that the raspberries harboured biting insects (midgies maybe) but the blueberries were next level I’ve got itchy bites from ankle to collar bone I’ll need everything tucked in and sprayed with repellent before I go get the rest of them 🌱
Picked just over 400g of blueberries yesterday up at the allotment and could’ve got a lot more if I’d had a bigger container Normally they wouldn’t be ready until late August or early September so make of that what you will 🌱

Let the Coriander in the herb patch go to flower rather than cutting it back and the hover flies are loving it 🌱
Did a couple of hours up at the allotment this morning. Filled a wheelbarrow with weeds and still didn’t get them all The fruit’s doing well. Getting raspberries every day and the first crop of blueberries are almost ready Slugs have decimated our cauli’s but we’ll get some good healthy ones 🌱
Finally remembered we’d bought a tree a few weeks back and got it planted out in the front garden Sorbus Eastern Promise but we’re calling it The Rowan. Blossoms have long gone but the bees were loving it at the time 🌱
Did a shift up at the allotment on Monday and everyone’s moaning about the slugs. Genuinely never seen them as bad as this in the 10 years we’ve had the plot Some of our stuff has been massacred but I’ve put marigolds in amongst them and that seems to be working. So far…🌱

Bit of a cooler start to the day in The Kingdom with last nights haar clinging on to the north east and thunderstorms approaching from the south west First few rumbles of thunder in the distance Heavy weather incoming
Managed to get up to the allotment for a wee while today, mainly to give the Grapevine a haircut Didn’t count how many bunches are forming but it’s a lot, way too many for a young plant If we get a few bunches of decent sized grapes, I’ll be happy 🌱
Tomato day in the polytunnel. 40+ plants to go into buckets which will take up all of one side and most of the other Pots and trays all washed and ready for this years residents Got my tunes lined up as this might take a while 🌱
It’s starting to look like the PPE shit at the start of the pandemic. Millions handed out to “ghost” companies and nothing in return The servers that these data centres are meant to house don’t exist and will likely never exist Reminds me of the Springfield monorail
Cleared out the unproductive raised bed in the polytunnel apart from a couple of inches of soil in the bottom then lined it with old compost bags and cardboard I’d bought a builders bag each of compost and soil improver and boy did I overestimate how much I needed Beds full and I’ve loads left🌱
After a prodigious growth spurt last year our polytunnel grapevine has ground to a halt Most of last years vine looks completely dead despite feeding and watering when it started to bud again I’m no expert and there’s a lot of conflicting advice out there. Suspect I should’ve pruned it 🌱
Yesterdays sun and 20mph+ wind has done a number on two of our red Acers Both showing signs of wind burn so we’ve moved them back to where they overwintered which means we won’t really get the benefit of them Might need to add a windbreak at some point but I’m not sure where 🌱
Up at the allotment for a couple of hours. BiL was a no-show but I still got a fair bit done Planted pumpkin down in the fruit bit Put some cucumber in the greenhouse after saturating the raised bed first (v dry in there) Weeding (always weeding) Grapevine looking good, lots of fruit showing 🌱
Few hours in the polytunnel, clearing out stuff we don’t use and creating a decent space for potting Potted on tomatoes, broccoli (Romanesco) and turnip. Proper ones. Not those daft wee white things Need to rethink the raised beds in there as anything we plant doesn’t come to anything 🌱
Last day of the holidays so we popped out for lunch and accidentally bought an Acer “Bloodgood” Needed a tree that makes a statement and can handle our weather so this should hopefully tick all the boxes Welcome to Fife Acer san 🌱
The BiL is doing some voluntary work at a local community garden so I’ve been getting him up to the allotment for some practice Turns out he’s a fine digger of holes. Two fruit trees planted along with some cauli’s and leeks Bit of weeding was a welcome bonus 🌱
Spent a few hours out in the garden potting on some of the smaller Acers and also the oldest one (25yrs) We’ve got a proper little forest going on out there 🌱
Another beautiful day in The Kingdom and our wee Cherry tree is in full bloom. We’re planning to be a bit more proactive in protecting any fruit from the birdies this year (got a couple of cherries last year and they were delicious) 🌱
