putting the finishing touches on my latest fucked up computer. her working hostname is SLIP, but I’m considering christening her Marsha or MARSHA if I can figure out a good enough acronym. I’ve spent the better part of the last year thinking about this piece and I’m really proud of it.

i got one of those daylight pcs for about half off the $700 retail price, which i would never have paid bc its more than ive spent on a computer in a decade but wow it is a real treat to be able to write comfortably in sunlight, ive dreamed of computing like this for years

Art, posts, gathered files, and field recordings surface and mix serendipitously, triggered by paragraphs from Dead Name. The console returns echoes from the future. A controller repurposed from Memory Terminal offers two choices: dwell and change. Witnessing leaves traces, and you can't go back.

In the foreground, I hold a lasercut rectangular aluminum controller module about 8 inches wide. It has two mirrored empty holes where joysticks used to be. Scratched into the panel are the words ‘dwell’ and ‘change’. above ‘dwell’ is an arrow toward a single central key. below change, an arrow points to three keys.

It is one transient home for over 5,000 media artifacts spanning 10 years of digital life. This is a first attempt to develop something like a digital vitrine// altar for this archive spanning two lives.

FREE COMPUTER (Archive #1): Every part of this computer, aside from the 12$ graphics card, was free. The furniture was found on the street. The rackmounted monitors were acquired through an eBay scam. The archive can sit comfortably in four inches of water. Its components are basically fungible.

a strange wooden computer surrounded by plants. A controller with four buttons sits on top, and a pair of closed back studio headphones hang on a hook. the vertical monitor leaning against the wall is made from a 6 foot board with a wavy rectangle cut out and an old LCD mounted behind. it displays a browser console full of warnings and errors. the main computer case has a dual rackmounted monitor unit at about waist level, with two open books resting vertically in the nook beneath. The left monitor displays a chaotic multilayered image. the right displays the text ‘hi i’m sammie’.

these ble radios are gay and theyre girlfriends

two 3d printed bluetooth low energy radio enclosures, with inverse pink and clear coloring, wavy faceplates, and little blue glowing screens. Their antennas stretch out to the right, three times the length of the enclosure itself.
