You never wake up one morning and all of a sudden the country has gone fascist.

It’s a slow burn, built up over years and sometimes decades. Remember that the Nazi’s were initially arrested 10 years before they actually took power. If you would have been worried about them in 1923, you would have been called delusional, a worrier, or any other label I get accused of. That was until the Nazi’s started winning small local elections….Speaking of which, freedumb convoy members are now getting elected to local offices, history doesn’t repeat, but it often rhymes.

We have been building there. The use of the NWS to break a strike is simply the latest milestone. It’s a big one in the sense of it’s significance in shifting the permission structure to legitimize the use of the NWS. This is not just Alberta. What happens in one province happens everywhere. Danielle Smith is just the first to set the template for others to follow, and they will. Our assistance in the “war on terror” was a step towards fascism the same as the RCMP clearing the Wet’suwet’en for a pipeline and jailing Indigenous activists was. We have always been heading down this road.

And we have collectively rolled over every time. Sometimes cheering it.

This is what I mean by apathy. The only way change happens is when enough people decide enough is enough. And the collective response when trying to engage anyone to try and change things is “what can you do” “yeah it sucks but that’s just how it is”. No shit sherlock, it is when everyone has this attitude.

We are the Alberta Students' Association (ASA), a group of high school students from across the province who have come together to make our voices heard on issues that affect us. While we have only recently formed, our goal is to represent students from different schools and communities in Alberta, sharing our perspectives and organizing events that matter to us.
We wanted to take a moment to introduce ourselves and explain why we have come together. Over the past few days, students across Alberta have been discussing concerns that affect our schools and our learning experiences. Out of these discussions, the idea of a coordinated walkout emerged as a way for students to express themselves safely, responsibly, and collectively
Our association is still growing, and our focus is on connecting students, sharing our experiences, and standing together as a community. We want students and parents to know that we value open communication, safety, and respect, and that any actions we organize are meant to be peaceful and constructive.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Alberta Students' Association. We look forward to continuing to build a supportive and connected student community across Alberta.

My message to Alberta teachers is simple: you will not stand alone.
Tomorrow all other Alberta unions will meet to finalize a plan for unprecedented collective action. The executive council of the Canadian Labour Congress will also meet in emergency session. And, CLC President Bea Bruske will fly to Alberta for our press conference on Wednesday to pledge the support of the entire labour movement. My message to Danielle Smith is also simply. You're the bully going after workers rights & democracy. We will stand up to the bully. Other provincial labour federations, including the Ontario Federation of Labour, will start collecting funds to build a war chest to help pay fines.
Danielle Smith may have thought she could bully the teachers into submission. We are not going to let that happen.
