Finally got around to reading @emilytesh.net 's Some Desperate Glory & now I know why everyone was raving over it. I was expecting a mature version of Sanderson's "Skyward" series, but it's much more. What is the cost of personal choice? What if you had a chance to undo your worst mistake? So good!

On RFK Jr's new cooking show: "a rich person’s solution to a poor person’s problem" where $18 portions somehow come out to $4.91 a person when you exclude all the incidental purchases needed to actually make the food. wapo.st/4z16hjL 🎁

But there’s something that feels slightly off with the assumption baked into the premise of this show. The assumption is that typical Americans don’t eat healthily because they don’t know how — because they don’t know that salmon is a smarter choice than a Happy Meal, or that a salad with a squeeze of lemon juice is lower-calorie than a bucket of ranch.

People do know this, though. And people who have to budget their groceries are often ingenious cooks, creative and resourceful, finding ways to stretch odds and ends into sustenance and joy.

It’s not that recipes are “overly intellectual.” It’s often the fact that food is 33 percent more expensive than it was seven years ago

Ice cream "bar", copied from Dairy Queen's Buster Bar. Crust is crushed Oreos and melted butter. Filling is vanilla ice cream and salted peanuts. Topping is butter, evaporated milk, icing sugar and semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Showed my kids The Cutting Edge l last night, after the Olympic closing ceremony. For a 90s sports romantic comedy, it holds up pretty well. I had a chuckle when I saw the screenwriter was Tony Gilroy, whose more recent credits include Rogue One and Andor.
