My family has been living in Berlin for the last 3 months. Alas summer is over and we’re flying back to the States today. Mach’s gut Berlin, dieser Sommer war schön.
I hadn’t seen this map before but I’m not surprised. You can still also see the west-east divide in electoral returns.
I biked the Berlin Sternfahrt today - 25 km from my Kiez to the Tiergarten, including a long stretch on the 115 Autobahn, which was closed to cars for the afternoon. Never had so much on a highway and one of the best days I have ever had in one of the best cities.
The only part of a driver tboning and totaling your bike that I can recommend is the application of @thewaroncars.bsky.social stickers on all the new stuff.
Turns out an Urban Arrow can take getting T-boned pretty well. The steering is jacked up and there are lots of scratches (including on me). Shame on the Columbus Police Department for not sending an officer because I was on a bike. PSA: drivers must yield when turning left to a bike going straight.
Schlepped the kids to and from school, went to work. A normal day of biking for me, except that normally I don’t get caught in a hail storm (the kids stayed dry and had fun). The only thing my c@r did today was get in the way of my bike getting into the garage. Happy Earth Day.
Tonight was the 12th time I have seen Bob Dylan but the first time I got there on a bike. Great show and smooth ride.
Doom-scrolling the war (reading a long dense book about the naval history of the Napoleonic wars)
Thank you for tuning in for my annual kvetch about the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968. If I were dictator, it would be among the first things I would abolish.
Very good photo editing in the Guardian (the photograph is by Toby Melville for Reuters)
Two photos about half a day apart - a late night ride to the store last night to get firewood and a late morning ride today to the playground. A very practical vehicle.
Here’s a photo from earlier this week of hauling both my compact folding bike and a full-sized steel Surly frameset I’m building up.
A tale of two Terns (the tiny red Vektron is mine, the giant green Orox is for a customer). @ternbicycles.com
Late night bike shop raid. I took my foldie to the bike shop this evening, and brought back a loaner bike. Then I went back in my bakfiets and came back home with the foldie in the bucket.
One of those vehicles is more practical than the other (the Cadillac looks pretty cool though)
I have just the vehicle to pick up 5 cubic feet of potting soil and some vegetable plans #CarryShitOlympics #Bikesky
Bike to the polls and park your bike next to other @thewaroncars.bsky.social fans
One of the teachers is driving my kids home tomorrow, so I brought two car seats to school this afternoon. #carryshitolympics
