More #penandink practice. This time, I wanted to try and capture this house in my neighborhood since I liked it. But after feeling like I messed up the wall with the roses and the stairs, I thought I'd try a couple more attempts just to see what I could learn before my fingers went numb.

I'm working on #penandink and while I enjoy it, it's work! I drew this local tree twice because I didn't feel I got the light right. I'm still trying to find the right mix of line technique, density, and direction to convey what I want.

More #Casein practice of a tree in my neighborhood:

A study from the lake at the base of Rattlesnake Ledge, a hike right outside of Seattle. The water was low and we met a very friendly duck.

Heya, Artists! If you see this, post a dog. This, the noble dog of my kid's friend, wanted to welcome yet another year of companionship. (It's been almost a decade since I've drawn a dog. Time to remedy that)

I'm still taking time to muck about with #casein #painting when I get time. The most time I seem to get is an hour in the morning before the family wakes up. Right now, I'm trying to just sketch, not worry about errors and get some quick, thoughtful practice in as I learn how to use this medium.

I only have this little fella I painted for a Humblewood version of the Tyranny of Dragons D&D campaign. He lives in the north, loves fish, and 80's color schemes.

I was finally blessed with my copy of "Carved in Stone: A Storyteller's Guide to the Picts". It's a beautiful, well researched and written book that the @stoutstoat.co.uk team worked incredibly hard to complete. Thank you!

I took a lovely walk around the lake at dawn this morning. However, it's been so long since I last did that, I had forgotten that it was not 3 miles around, it was 6! So, I had to run the last mile with my backpack and up the hills of Fremont to make it to a meeting with one minute to spare. PHEW!

I just used this great tutorial by @mollybrooks.bsky.social to make a little tape bound book. It's different than my normal approach, but I wanted something that laid really flat and I love the cool stitch on the back. Thanks, Molly!

This morning's #casein practice #painting was chosen by my kid who wanted something more complicated, so here it is! Finding the right dark colors without using black or getting too many whites in my darks took some discipline. I hope I got close, though I know there are things I'd fix.

Another morning #casein #painting practice. This time, Looking Away From a Lighthouse in Oregon. I've not really done water all that much, so this is something I should work at more often. I feel I could have added more color to this one.

Going through my photo roll of previous hikes to get some #casein #painting practice in while the weather isn't great and my time is short.

A chunky, boulder rests on a grass covered hill. There are small rocks to the left and a large mound on the right from which the boulder fell out of a long time ago. A small evergreen tree sits to the right of the boulder. In the distance there are trees and hill, and a river seems to carve its way through the landscape behind all of that. The front part of the scene is dark with shadow.

A large stump that suggests a rough hewn throne sits atop a small hill, surrounded by trees. everything is in shadow, except for the bright yellow green canopy of the trees in the upper half of the painting. A bright blue sky peaks through the canopy. I'm trying to get comfortable painting again but I'm still feeling very clumsy with my brush marks. Still, this is good practice.

I've been enjoying practicing #painting in #casein with a limited palette by doing 1 hour sketches in the morning before everyone wakes up. The brown paper I'm using pushes me toward an oil-like, opaque approach, but I'm going to keep trying transparent as well.

I had a meeting today where my role was passive, so I spent the time doing a quick 20 minute study of a photo I took this morning on a walk. I'm still trying to get used to casein. It dries and changes color and value in ways I'm not able to predict yet.
