Good morning #portfolioday !! I'm Jai, a mostly self-taught character artist and illustrator; I generally do one-off commissions, but I'm always interested in bigger projects! I mostly do work for LARPs, TTRPGs, or very silly cartoon sloths and things. illustratedjai.com illustratedjai@gmail.com

Clem is slightly taller, slightly darker skinned, and rounder faced than Silas. He has long wavy blonde hair pulled back into a low ponytail. He's wearing an orange waistcoat with embroidery on the lapels and a deep blue coat. Silas has short dark reddish brown hair, a pointier face than Clem, and slightly paler skin. He's wearing a white and red patterned waistcoat and an orange jacket. They're stood close together - Clem is holding one of Silas's wrists gently with both hands, as though he's just finished fixing a button on his sleeve. Silas' other hand is raised and gently brushing Clem's hair away from his cheek. They're gazing lovingly into each other's eyes, and blushing slightly. The background of the image has a large triangular element going around the border of the top and left edges, with a smaller triangle in the bottom right corner, and a circular element framing Silas and Clem. The larger border element has an arnica flower (a bright yellow flower with distinct, long thing petals) in the top-left most position, flanked below and to the right by dwarf sunflowers, which are very round yellow flowers with dark brown centres. There are vines of flowers twining around both the longer parts of the border: Indian jasmine along the top (a small, white, six-petaled flower), and white camellias along the left hand side (large, fluffy, almost spherical white flowers). In the bottom right corner, there are purple irises (complicated looking purple flowers with yellow splashes on tall straight stems) and American cowslip (smaller, lighter purple flowers that seem to bend backwards). In the circular element, there's a view of a stormy sky as seen from an orangery, with orange blossoms and leaves around the edges (small, white, star shaped flowers).

And here she is! @saranadosfiction.com 's Amelia, ready to be dressed up! The plan is to do a couple of her day-to-day outfits, a wedding dress, and a few other things... taking suggestions for types of outfits to draw her in! (With no promises on how quickly I'll be drawing them, natch.)

Artists, QRP with your blood art! (A chance to share bloodspatter barbie again, you say?? don't mind if i do!)

A digital illustration of a Barbie doll. She is a light skinned doll with quite a long neck and arms in relation to the size of her torso and head. Her arms and legs are in stiff, slightly unnatural poses. Her face is clearly painted on and she's staring blankly ahead with a smile. Working on bulking out my portfolio with more stuff that isn't commission stuff, so let's draw a trans mer man. (Reference from @adorkastock.com )

And there's the comparison of the three characters side by side. I think you can definitely tell there's been over a decade since I last drew her.

A "Draw this again" meme, showing three different drawings of the same character: a medium skinned woman with dark hair, posing with a large sword. In each of them she's wearing a knee-length blue skirt, a white shirt, and some amount of chainmail, but the details differ from there. In the first version (dated 2012), she's wearing a sleeveless shirt, pauldrons, and a blue brocade corset, and white bloomers can be seen peeking out from under her skirt. In the second version (dated 2015), she's wearing a breastplate, pauldrons, and she's wearing stockings instead of bloomers. The same blue brocade used in the corset in the first version is now part of her skirt. In the third version (dated 2026), the outfit is much more similar to the first drawing than to the second: she's wearing a blue brocade corset again, but this time her shirt has big floofy sleeves, and long gloves that match her boots. There are other more minor differences between them, such as the style of the sword and the expression on her face. While all three drawings are clearly by the same hand, there's an obvious improvement in skill between them, especially the last one compared to the second one.

Victoria, Paladin Redux 3 - Personal Work Redrew an old character as a "Draw this again" challenge - this is Victoria, Paladin of an Unknown God back again - a little older, a little wiser now. (She's got a chatelaine this time!) Brocade texture from here: www.deviantart.com/.../Oriental...

Working on an art nouveau commission for a friend today. I think I'm getting better at flowers...

#repostyourart - day 30 - Whimsical Another i'm posting a day late, but oh well! This has been a huge amount of fun, and a great excuse to go digging through my art :) Here, have a bard sloth.

#repostyourart - day 29 - Plant THIS one, though, this one i've been waiting all month for. OBSERVE MY ALOE VERA SON.

A watercolour illustration of a cartoony looking plant-person-thing. It's a Magic: the Gathering saproling based on an aloe vera plant. The creature has a round head with a squishy little body; its head looks like an aloe vera plant, with green spikes with little white speckles on them. Its body is the same colour, with little white speckels along the arms and legs, and othwerwise lacks any detail. Its arms and legs end in little stubs, with no distinguishable hands or feet. The background is a wash of mixed greens with lumpy wiggly lines in a darker green. Underneath the saproling is a green box with the text "Saproling", and a smaller green box with the text "1/1" overlapping with it. There's a small signature near the foot of the saproling that reads "J2013" in a looping hand.

#repostyourart - day 27 - garden Another one from the set of cards for my parents - this time in their back garden, enjoying the plants.

#repostyourart - day 26 - Mushroom Somehow, the only piece of art i have with mushrooms in is this in-character sketch of @erisacolyte.bsky.social 's character Scelero from the local LARP we both play. (Characters can gain/lose weird mutations in play, this one was a plant-based one.)

They have shaved hair, and a number of small mushrooms growing out of the top of their head. They have thick eyebrows and wide eyes, and there's a weird squiggle under their left eye. There is a note next to them identifying them as "Scelero the Singer". Around the edges of the photograph are longer notes that have been cut off by the edges of the photo rendering them mostly illegible.

Aaand today's #repostyourart - day 25 - Abstract I sometime dabble in fashion design, and i had the idea of doing outfits/dresses inspired by famous art works; this one is inspired by The Black Square, which my sister and I saw back when she was in art school.

The front view of the dress is a very severe, floor length black dress with broad, square shoulders, a high collar, and long, tight sleeves. The Black Square itself is a canvas that has been painted completely black, but allowed to age - there are faint cracks and discolourations visible in the surface. Above the image of the painting is handwritten text that says "Dress inspired by "The black square" - Kasimir Malevich".

missed another #repostyourart - here's day 24 - Fast / Slow Now, you'd think I'd show off another sloth, wouldn't you, but instead, here have something fast: a red elmental with haste from the big mtg token commission :)

All of the text is in an ornamental slightly mideval style typeface.

whoops, missed yesterday's #repostyourart - day 23 - Magic Here, have one of the TTRPG Sloths: the wizard sloth :) He's one of my favourites.

Sh-shut up...

A copy of the "Bad habit artist bingo", a grid with five columns and five rows. Cells have been marked with a green smudge where they apply to me. Third row: doesn't name layers (marked); too hard on self (marked); free space; saves 100 tutorials, uses none; backgrounds? Don't know em (marked). Fourth row: where's my pen/stylus?; 100 empty sketchbooks; forgets to sign/watermark piece (marked); stylus/pen death grip; zooms in and focuses on details no one else will see (marked). Fifth row: gets distracted in the middle of drawing with another idea; hides hands to avoid drawing them; delicious anatomy, doesn't want to give character clothes; same face syndrome (marked); forgot to flip the canvas (marked). There is no full row, column or diagonal filled in in the chart - the closest is the final column where all but the top option have been filled in. A little blue doodle of a smiley face with lumpy hair has been added in the top left corner. In the bottom right corner there is text that reads @nightexcision.

#repostyourart - Day 22 - Paint Here's something I made for a LARP system back in 2019 - they just asked for the cards, but I decided to do them out of balsa wood instead of paper, and then decided they needed a cool box just for fun. Painted with acrylics and then varnished so that they'd hold up.

Four photographs of the same box in different stages of being opened stiched together. The box is rectangular with an arched top so it looks like a small chest. The outside is painted black with a gold border on it. The inside has been painted red. Left to right and top to bottom: the first photo shows the box closed. In the second, it is open, showing the inside and a red fabric bundle with gold ribbons sitting inside. The third photo shows the box at the same angle, but the red bundle has been pulled out of ht ebox and is shown to be a small pouch holding a pile of wooden cards, each painted black with a thick gold border. The final photo shows the box open, with the pouch off to one side. The cards have bene pulled out of the pouch, and are in two piles - one with them face down, showing the black and gold backs, the other a small fan of cards, showing that they are black with a more delicate gold border on the fronts. Each card has a different symbol painted mostly in white, like a reverse silhouette. The symbols that are visible are an open book and a mask - the other symbols are too obscured to parse. Each of the photos is against the same blue fabric backdrop.

#repostyourart - Day 20 - Critter I've been saving these bad boys up for today! There's only a few prompts that I knew in advance what I wanted to do with, and this was one of 'em (the folder these guys sit in is called "Critters", even!)

A set of five digital sketches of critters. They're all very loosely done, with colours overlapping the edges, and visible initial sketches and imperfect lines. All of the critters are semi-anthropomorphic animals, standing on their hind legs. #repostyourart - day 19 - Fruit Somehow, i haven't used fruit in my art in ages - had to go waaayyy back to this piece from 2013! The ghost of a friend's LARP character under an apple tree that was planted in her memory.

#repostyourart - Day 18 - Everyday life Here's one from a set of cards I did for my mum of her and my dad doing ordinary everyday things - the set included reading on the back deck, hiking up one of the local hills, goofing off while washing the car, and this one, doing the garden chores.

#repostyourart - Day 17 - Doodle Here's a relatively recent one of @saranadosfiction.com 's character Sabbat from Argentum in Aqua.

He's making an expression that's halfway between a frown and a smile. The image is almost entirely in shades of purple, other than a splash of bright red blood around his nose and lip. Missed yesterdays's #repostyourart due to the bsky issues, so here it is a day late: Day 16 - Colourful Going for both actually colourful, and also, like, "a colourful cast of characters" - this was a comm for a group of the player characters from the LARP I reffed a few years back!

#repostyourart - Day 15 - Soft Here, today have a totally normal plushie. Totally normal Avishkar Gremlin plushie. Nothing ominous or spooky here. (This is from the giant "haunted toys mtg tokens" commission from last year.)
