A Reddit post titled “AITA For driving my fiance up a mountain?

My fiance (27F), and I (26M) were discussing a trip we went on a few years ago, and she said she thinks I made a bad call when traveling, so I’m curious what reddits opinion will be.

We were going down to meet some friends at a cabin in the mountains for a little vacation. The cabin was in Tennessee, in the Smokey mountains. We were driving from the Chicago area to get there, and we got there pretty late at night. It also happened to be foggy that night, to make things worse. We had to go through the great Smokey mountains national park to get to the cabin, which meant driving on the road that goes through the park, past Newfound Gap, for those familiar with the park. I had driven through this area before, both during the day and during the night, so I was comfortable driving, even through the patchy fog. My fiance was very anxious, and was in tears for much of the drive once it started getting twisty. I tried to hold her hand (she didn’t want me to, she wanted my hands on the wheel, which is fair lol) and did my best to comfort her as I drove, but I figured the best way to resolve the situation was just to drive another 30 minutes to get to the other side of the park and off the mountain. She eventually fell asleep after she came down from her panic attack (I don’t mean that jokingly or lightly, she did have a panic attack) for a couple minutes, and was much less anxious after she woke up.

If we had turned around (we would have to first find a spot to turn around), it would have been much of the same, and then leave us stranded with no place to stay. She thinks I should have turned around and we should have gotten a hotel.

So Reddit, AITA for pushing through the park and getting to the other side?
