Families carry a lot. And often they carry alone. Today, on International Day of Families, we want to remind everyone to look out for siblings or parents of someone with an intellectual disability and ask them how they're doing. Community matters. Especially to families that need support.
🎉 Big day today for representation of people with intellectual disabilities! 🎉 Joachim Busch and @soufianeelamrani.bsky.social become the first persons with intellectual disabilities to be elected to the Board of @myedf.bsky.social
“A person makes 35.000 decisions a day. That is what it means to live your life. Each one of them belong to you, not to a guardian. Not to a judge. Not to a system. To you. So stop talking about whether people with intellectual disabilities can decide. Let’s make sure they get to decide.”
Siblings of people with intellectual disabilities are often overlooked or even ignored by people outside the family. Read more about the situation of siblings and parents of children with intellectual disabilities in our 1st essay of the Young Families Project. Out now!
