Senate Dems overwhelmingly (70%) voted for DOMA and Clinton signed it with a statement saying he opposed government recognition of same sex marriages. Obama was against them in 2008 as well. Dems started to shift their rhetoric in 2012, but little happened until Obergefell in 2015.
