I write, stream, and code stuff. I also raise children and sometimes clean things. Working on docs for 🍏. Grand Rapids, MI. He/Him/His. Also (follow via BridgyFed for BlueSky: @invalidname.mastodon.social.ap.brid.gy)
I discovered that the general charitable fund for Ukranian defense gets a 100% match from my employer, so I sent them a few hundred bucks. Hopefully they can buy/build more drones.
This AI-generated Facebook ad for language lessons is my new favorite thing. Subtext is for cowards.
Also, it's kind of adorably deranged how much blood they worked into the first episode?
Surprised and delighted to see localization credits on “Young Girls Don’t Play Fighting Games”. Is Crunchyroll doing this on all their shows this season? Is it how they beat accusations of AI slop translation?
I love love love Valkyria Chronicles. Since you like Fire Emblem, this will probably click for you too (great cast, great story, strategery!). Play 1 ("Remastered") first, then 4… don't worry about 2 and 3 (both were on the PSP, and 3 never even got an English translation).
@bwprowl.bsky.social They also had the new Transformers pin, so I had to try it on your account. It’s pretty fun. There’s a boss battle where you have to hit purple targets to damage Megatron (while avoiding red targets for Optimus) then finish off by hitting the big Megatron toy.
I spent the afternoon downtown playing pinball because Pyramid Scheme is one of two places in all of Michigan with Winchester Mystery House on the floor for public play and I wanted to try it. I mean, just look at this gorgeous art package.
And here I thought I was hot stuff with a complete set of Viz’s Phoenix. But this new Kodansha USA edition sounds luxurious (with new lettering from @sara.pizza, yay).
OMG, it’s finally happening. Since we moved here in 2008, they’ve been talking about making the river in Grand Rapids actually be rapids again, by removing obsolete 19th century dams and installing boulders for the fast-moving water to crash against. According to a FB post, work started today.
We received our #MIPOL primary ballots yesterday. Only one competitive race on each side, but this one is a doozy.
I don’t know why this rubbed me the wrong way, especially given the esteem of the people involved. But I ended up ranting out on the open question part of the survey.
The Atari 2600 lacks enough memory for a full frame buffer (the data to draw to the screen), so developers must draw one scan line at a time. Because this takes up nearly all CPU, any game logic is processed during the Vertical Blanking Interval, the 45 blank lines above the first visible line.
A little rant on r/EA_NHL about why there are no modern ice hockey games for Switch. It won’t fit in a toot and has links besides, so please see the alt text if you need to.
Skip the anime, read the light novels (just look past the egregiously misguided cover art).
NGL, if #2KSports did a Kickstarter to bring back their NHL game, I’d be in for a couple hundred bucks. C’mon, someone. EA’s NHL license isn’t even exclusive like the NFL one for Madden is.
I continue to believe that the skeleton crew left to maintain #EA_NHL no longer has any idea how the code works.
Come to think of it, look at what else has been sitting in my torrent folder for a decade, just waiting to be reseeded.
Related: I've officially given up hoping for a MyGO BD in my region. Ave Mujica is next.
Copying back my torrent folder from a long-unused external drive so I can set up BT again after like a decade. My plan is to start collecting rips of my favorite anime of the last 5-10 years, since they’re obviously never getting legitimate physical releases from Crunchyroll, or even download-to-own
Update: my youngest kid did the FF personality quiz and got Ashe. I had to explain why that’s an awesome result. (Periodic reminder that FF XII is Final Fantasy for grown-ups.)
