This headline is beyond hilarious. Mind you, he isn't wrong, but when a monopolist like Zuck complains about something like this, you know it's just because *he* wasn't the one able to corner the market.
Hmm. Her ParentData website says she's a "professor of economics at Brown University". Must have been hacked by Wikipedians. And just cook your lettuce. Who doesn't love boiled lettuce?
I love this quote from @joanwestenberg.com (over on Threads). I could quibble a bit - a lot probably - with the former. But it's still wonderfully put.
Wow. Settlers are just armed thugs. But the Israeli military? Who do they think pays their salaries?
How can you buy tickets in *December* and not have them delivered, I dunno, in December?
I had no idea this law existed. So there are at least *three* classes of US citizenship - "natural born" (who can run for president), naturalized (who can't) and this third class.
This is the part that jumps out at me. How can public officials sign an NDA around something like this? How is that even legal? It's like your real estate agent accepting an offer to sell your house that includes a clause that prevents them from telling you the sales price or conditions.
Granted, that doesn't have to be the case that Duggan's withdrawal will hurt the Dems. But Republicans looking for an alternative to MAGA might also vote for Benson or not vote.
They are explicit in the discussion. Since HLA-DQB1 starts at 0, it's one of the genes that "have been under consistent positive selection since they arose" And they go on to say "We ruled out the possibility that our results are reflecting not directional selection but stabilizing selection"
But never fear, I'm sure we can trust an Ai booster to speak about this in an unbiased manner. Ai totally isn't dependent on private equity to provide the billions they continuously need to set on fire. Right? www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
At a time when there's concern about the systemic risks posed by private equity, and when some many institutional investors are pulling money out, this seems like an awful idea. But then, maybe that's the point - let ordinary people bail out the funds now that the big profits are gone.
Are my daffodils non-political? What about if I note that they're probably early because of the warm weather triggered by climate change? And the fact that they're non-native species in Michigan, as are the Lunaria (money plant) seedlings coming up in the corner of the pic?
"Iran’s tolerance for pain appears far higher than Mr. Trump anticipated". This line in a NYT article really hit home for me how little attention the Trump admin has paid to Iran. Iran relied on human wave attacks in the war with Iraq. The losses were catastrophic, but Iran tolerated the pain
Among all that red, I'm in that green dot in the very centre. Why? City-owned utility!
If you grew up in a house that looks like this you're probably required to believe in werewolves and vampires.
They had a 20-year common law marriage, but because the US doesn't recognise it, she was never able to become a permanent resident. Among all the many power differentials in this story, this is one of the cruelest.
How do people with big accounts handle that kind of thing? Even this little bit of attention to my fairly silly reply (for which I'm grateful) makes me want to delete my account and abandon social media forever.
I also needed to read this, as I'm thinking about taking an abandoned draft and entirely reworking it. And wondering if it still needs to be speculative fiction.
