My mother-in-law who is a longtime Democrat, was a real supporter of his. I disagreed as I felt that he was an opportunist taking advantage of peoples' need for a hero. She then said: "but Bernie supports him!" in the same way she always says: "but it's organic!" to imply that this means safe to eat and good for you, no matter what. Perhaps I never got over Fetterman, but I actually think this was deeper and had the feeling he was playing supporters for fools.

This is not the first time Warren has been a disappointment. She’s a very white older woman who is completely tone deaf on race, although not as aggressively as Sanders is.

When the NYT story dropped on June 4th describing “unsettling” behavior alleged by three women Platner had dated in the past, people who I considered political heroes insisted continuing their support. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders stuck by Platner, even when there was already more than enough evidence that he was not fit to be the Democratic candidate. Both Warren and Sanders finally pulled their support this week after the rape allegations were published, but it shouldn’t take a woman sharing details about a grotesque intimate experience to knock a man off his pedestal.

Many have alleged AIPAC is behind these allegations. Any truth to that? Who is digging into that?

I'd be interested in knowing to which law enforcement agency the woman first reported her alleged assault. Something so serious doesn't just suddenly need the spotlight of attention years after the supposed event. It is possible her allegatins are untrue,

I just don’t understand her timing. Why why why couldn’t she have done this months ago? This is like torpedoing all the Maine voters who support the policies that Platner has been pushing. He may be an asshole, but she owes voters better timing.

Chrissy’s whole piece is on point, but these paragraphs deserve special emphasis:

The Declaration is often cited as a key example of the Enlightenment ideals espoused, often hypocritically, by the founding fathers. Even those who recognize the hypocrisy, like many prominent Democrats, often refer to the Declaration as setting very special aspirational ideals, as if the country’s leadership over centuries should get credit simply for ostensible good intentions, or cite the Declaration explicitly as an example of “American exceptionalism,” when this notion of national supremacy is in itself corrosive of democracy.

Like hero worship of the founding fathers, the rhetoric of exceptionalism and “national greatness” should have no place in a healthy, democratic country, and therefore should be eschewed by any supposedly democratic party. But our feckless Democratic Party leaders can’t seem to help themselves from letting the fascist Republicans frame national discourse. Often they actually seem to like the same frames.
