Farley’s House and Gallery, the former home of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose, which we visited today. In the guestbook was a signature of Wells Coates, architect of the Isokon, written in English and Japanese characters. Interior photography not allowed so we bought the book (/2)

More Plećnik. Zachlerhaus (built 1903-5, restored in 1949, and again in 2023) One of the earliest modern buildings in central Vienna. Archangel Michael on the facade by Ferdinand Andri, caryatids by Franz Metzner. Closed when we passed by, but recent interior views here dtflr.com/en/projects/...

We visited the Church of the Holy Spirit in Vienna (Jože Plecnik, built 1910-13). A sort of abstracted doric temple front on the outside. Bright and open interior. The first reinforced concrete church in Austria.

An excellent tour at the Tugendhat house in Brno. Lilly Reich was acknowledged as the co-designer of iconic furniture items like the Barcelona and Tugendhat chairs, previously often attributed to Mies alone.

At the Villa Tugendhat in Brno, CZ Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. 1938. “God is in the details”, as the architect said.

Vienna. We got a seat easily in the tiny Loos American Bar (Adolf Loos 1908). The evening was warm and most people wanted to sit outside.

1940 correspondence from “Chips” (Private E Riss) to Jack Pritchard asking for contacts for work. Egon Riss is, of course, the subject of our current exhibition. Do come and visit! Open 11-4 every weekend, and on the last Friday of the month.
