Game 3 of Wolves/Spurs about to get goin Minnesota has to do better work than Game 2 in transition, from 3, and in the non-Wemby minutes if they want to re-take the lead in the series Should be fun
The Wolves were abysmal in the Rudy Gobert ON, Victor Wembanyama ON minutes in the lone matchup both Frechmen played. RS --> Lost 50-19 in 16:26 Tonight --> Lost 45-40 in 21:32 - Held Spurs to 104.7 ORTG on 42.7% TS - 84.2% DREB% - 7 stocks - 11 2C PTS 📊 @pivotfade.com
If Ant does come off the bench, the non-Wemby minutes become even more important The middle part of the first and second quarters become critical Wolves won the 38 minutes this season w/ Wemby OFF 91-71
Anthony Edwards is psychotic in the best possible way Can never question the guy's heart and will
TJ Shannon has been highly productive when given a longer runway. He's played only 12 games w/ 20 minutes or more, but averages nearly 17 PPG and 3.2 AST to 1.3 TOV per game. I understand the hesitancy from Chris Finch on defense, but he needs to play through mistakes in G6.
Mentioned this on last night's Locked on Wolves Postcast (link below), but Julius Randle changed the tenor of the game w/ his physicality in 3Q. Went right at Gordon/Jokić 3x for scores/fouls, then drew two for a hockey assist 3. Fueled a 9-0 run. Exactly how he needs to play
Pretty much best case scenario for the Wolves Makes closing out Denver very important to give Ant some more time to heal
Mike Conley this season has been the biggest beneficiary in terms of minutes when Anthony Edwards doesn't play, but that was pre-trade deadline. Expect Julius, Jaden, Ayo, Donte to shoot considerably more, with Naz and Julius to score more efficiently on higher volume.
Julius Randle with a game-high 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and ZERO turnovers in the first half in OKC. Better numbers than his last 5 games vs OKC as a whole www.sports-reference.com/stathead/bas... (h/t @stathead.com)
Anthony Edwards with an emphatic block to cap off his most impressive half in a while Game-high 20 points (6 middy, 6 3PT, 8 FT) 3-5 2PT | 2-5 3PT | 8-8 FT 6 rebounds 3 assists / 0 turnovers Beautiful shot chart. Got others involved, then took over. Perfect formula.
Anthony Edwards' 17-point 1Q this afternoon is his 9th quarter with at least 17 points this season, per @stathead.com It is his highest-scoring opening frame of the season www.sports-reference.com/stathead/bas...
Is Kyle Anderson the same player he was two years ago? I'm not sure. But 2024 Slow-Mo fit *extremely* well next to: - Ant and Naz (+14.8 NET in 594 minutes) - Ant and Rudy (+11.6 NET in 482 minutes) Both groups had sub-105 DRTGs (ELITE) -- OKC's DRTG this year is 106.4 (#1)
4 blocks now for McDaniels, becoming the 7th player in the NBA this season to have at least 4 blocks in a quarter. He's the only player with 4 blocks and a steal in a quarter this season, per @stathead.com. www.sports-reference.com/stathead/bas...
His TS% on creation plays (Iso/PnR/Post-up) keeps going up, as does the rate he is blitzed/trapped. So why can't he create more looks for his teammates off of it? He's surrounded by mostly elite shooters and has a great rolling big.
The Wolves are 2nd-worst in AST% (55.8%) and last in AST (21.6 per game) over their L5 games. Anthony Edwards is averaging just 3.6 AST (2nd-lowest of career) and 8.9 potential AST per 100 poss. this year (lowest of his career); he has the fewest POT AST among high-share handlers.
Julius Randle went for 31 in the second half tonight, becoming the 9th player in franchise history with a half of 30+ points. Anthony Edwards has done so twice this season (1-17 at SAS, 12-2 at NOP). @stathead.com www.sports-reference.com/stathead/bas...
Awesome welcome back to Target Center for Nickeil Alexander-Walker, forever a fan favorite of Wolves faithful
I asked Chris Finch before the game if there's levers he and his staff can pull to inspire more connectivity with the group, following up on a Julius Randle soundbite from last night: "Focus less on some of the mistakes but more on what the rhythm and connectivity looks like" Full quote:
I have some custom scripts that fetch NBA data as part of my game prep. Part of that is generating similarity score based on statistical profiles (scoring, shooting, playmaking, play style, etc.) Player most similar to Ayo Dosunmu? Nickeil Alexander-Walker (67.0% similarity)
Anthony Edwards when it’s time to lead a 4Q comeback out of nowhere when the team looks terrible for 3 quarters
This deal as reported would get the Timberwolves under the first apron, which would likely be a precursor to a second, larger deal that requires them to either 1) use the NAW TPE of $7.58M, or BAE/TP MLE in a trade 2) take back more than 100% of outgoing salary
Bones Hyland has been at his best this season without Anthony Edwards (12 games entering tonight) Averaging 2.5 more PPG w/o Ant than with him (31 G) on much better 3PT shooting (37.2% vs 31.4%) and much higher +/- (+5.7 vs +1.7). Bones has a game-high 12 PTS, 5 REB, 3 AST
Updated status report for the tonight's Warriors/Wolves rematch: Warriors notables: - Steph Curry QUESTIONABLE (right knee inflammation) - Draymond Green QUESTIONABLE (back soreness) - Horford/Melton OUT, which Kerr said was the plan pregame yesterday
The Timberwolves before today’s game against the Warriors held a moment of silence in memory of Alex Pretti.
