A detour away from safe bicycling infrastructure should never be "just dump everyone on to an unprotected street." If the pathway must be temporarily closed (and it's not even clear as to why in this case), then the detour should also include the provision of (at least) a temporary bike lane.
I am once again asking the Ville de Gatineau to consider whether it is a good idea or not to drive a full sized pick-up truck on MUPs and bridges designed and sized for bicycle and foot traffic, or if (imagine this!) it might be better for equipment to be put in the bucket of an e-assist cargo bike.
Went by this afternoon to take a look and saw that the intersection is now fenced; which would prevent drivers from crossing northbound, but does demand an answer to the question of how exactly the cars between Isabella and Pretoria, and those exiting the auto shop garage, are supposed to get out.
"It's not against the law to turn left here if I've got a bicycle with me somewhere ..." - #autowa, probably.
Instant karma when three drivers run a red light (signed no right on red at this intersection due to dedicated bus lanes and MUP crossing). I gave the third driver a wag of the finger and did the "did you see that?" wave to the police car stopped at the line who went after the last one (still ACAB).
This was my « panier bordelais » for a while (but now retired, with the bike sold on to a new owner).
To give some context, this intersection connects (via a short residential street) the main MUP running along the Ottawa river in Gatineau to the MUP and trail network running through Gatineau Park, making it an extremely busy crossing for pedestrians and cyclists accessing the park (circled in red).
I haven't been on that part of O'Connor in a while, didn't even realized that block had changed (in fact Google Maps still shows it as one-way):
Our new normal is the weather segment on the news showing where the fires are currently and how dangerous the air is in population centres. Stay inside if you have the privilege, mask up with a N95 respirator or equivalent/better if you must go out (find a local mask bloc if you cannot afford them).
Reminder that salmon belong in the river or on a bagel with cream cheese, capers and herbs; under no circumstance should they be found riding counter-flow in very narrow painted bike lane.
Who's the dude with the cool shirt, #ottbike? (I know who it is, in fact).
This driver has three different passengers who could a) look up directions on their own phone, b) call her out for using her phone while driving, but neither of the above will happen in #autowa.
Had this one in Ottawa the other week on a MUP; absolutely no way to get by if you're mobility challenged or using a mobility device:
Imagine putting this shit on your bike and then leaving it there for years after Trudeau has left office; absolute cringe. Anyway dude, you missed your chance, he was single for a bit; you miss all the shots you don't take.
I am once again begging you to check the coding on your French translation copy. Bonjour, [Prénom] !!, indeed!
Not only is winamp still around, but you can run it just fine on Linux these days too.
Mackenzie #ottbike "closure" status, day 5(?) -- people are moving their shit and there is no reason for all these stupid obstacles.
The driver of the car immediately parked, so it's not like they were in a rush to get somewhere else and I caught up with the cyclist at the next red, so it's not like running the light got them anywhere any faster.
Two people run the same red light, but only one of them will be said to reflect poorly on other users of the same mode of transportation (you can guess which). (And certainly both with the pedestrian trying to cross and in general, neither should be doing this).
Mackenzie #ottbike bike lanes still closed with no signs of work or reason for/duration of closure. Imagine being a tourist and having biked down the Canal to find yourself at a sign telling you to "detour" somewhere off into traffic. 🤦♂️
