I’ve been cleaning goo from perished belts out of a 1972 reel to reel mechanism all day. It even got into one of the motors. All working fine again now. How was your day? #InTheLabDoingStuff
I ordered some C2N datasette replacement belts from a small ebay seller. They created the invoice on an Amiga 600 and printed it out on a Star NL 10 dot matrix printer. This is the way. #RetroComputing #VintageComputing
I cracked my first #C64 game! Not very sophisticated (I used an intromaker and know only half way what I’m doing), but it works. Jeff Minter‘s "Sheep in Space" cracked from a covertape, converted to a runnable, re-packed disk file. Yay! #ObsoleteSkills
Taking a little break after ~6 hours of refurbishing/repairing datasettes. So far, 3 out of 3 1531s (the grey ones) work fine again and I even managed to load Cobra on the one that had a "Cobra" Dymo label on it… 😅 #InTheLabDoingStuff
Yesterday‘s night shift sidequest: unlocking the Amazon Echo Show 5 that I had sitting around uselessly for a long time (you can’t even use it at all without an Amazon account). Now running LineageOS on it. Much better.
You can also just run a slightly modified version of DolphinDOS on the #C64Ultimate, as it turns out. It is WAY faster than any JiffyDOS derivatives (but doesn’t have a rainbow startup screen). Here’s the variant I’m currently using: github.com/donnchawp/Do...
Remember the DolphinDOS x JiffyDOS patch for the #C64? It uses some of the superior disk routines from Dolphin with the Jiffy fastloader so you don’t need a parallel cable (just the Jiffy ROM in the disk drive). I just put it on my #C64Ultimate. Also: rainbow startup screen! csdb.dk/release/?id=...
I love it so far. I stayed up nearly as late as when I got my first C64 in 1987 and played games, fiddled with the settings, listened to tunes, read the manual. Time travel is real. Bed time now. See you tomorrow. #Nightynight #C64Ultimate

Listening to #AngineDePoitrine (!) while soldering some cables for my Hifi. I’ve settled for Amphenol ACPR RCA plugs and Sommer Cable Onyx as my go-tos for non-audiophile-bs high quality.
