FFS what is it with travel firms? First it was Cornish walking holidays in the Canadian Rockies, yesterday it was a mystery tour of York around London, and today it's a UK short break in Germany.

The Stonegate Printer's Devil says hi.

A carved and painted seated demon mounted on an external wall on a street corner. He is painted red with black horns and a chain around his waist to hold him down. He was almost certainly a marker for one of the many print shops that thrived in this area of York in the 18th century.

Had a good weekend, and this was the best bit - finally meeting @saskiadanielceramics.com IRL. Also becoming the proud owner of (another) one of her vases, which is what I'm holding in the carrier bag. I love this textured pattern because it reminds me of how I carve foliage in a linoprint.

A beautiful blue vase with a single large pale pink rose in it. The vase is quite small, fairly rounded, and the rose is absurdly large. The vase is a strong cobalt blue. It has been covered in a random carved texture of small overlapping chips or dents, and the raised lines in between have been highlighted with a black glaze, so the overall impression is rather like snake skin or perhaps the surface of a fruit, or indeed a piece of carved lino that has been inked up.

WTF does this mean?? (Unhelpful sign by a tree in the Castle Howard Arboretum - formerly known as the Yorkshire Arboretum).

Sign about a horse chestnut tree with a sentence highlighted by me that says 'These trees may have been here before the Castle Howard Bastion Wall was built c. 1725, but that's impossible'.

Back from two weeks in France where I discovered yet another Brexit Benefit - being allowed to pay an extra €10 admission to a visitor attraction (that's nearly 50% more) above that paid by residents of the EEA. And everyone cheered.

Oh I was including the surrounding pond thing in my size estimate. I must take some proper measurements next time I'm there and then make an offer. The water pressure might be an issue. I'll have to speak to Yorkshire Water about that.

The same fountain as in the first post, only now you can see more of the enormous round basin that surrounds it. Also the house of Castle Howard in the background - a huge Georgian edifice topped by a dome.
