Been to the lovely JWEvans this morning, fab, inquisitive and knowledgeable visitors on my tour as usual. Couldn’t resist buying this little treasure from The Hive, Vittoria St, on the way up - butter and jam for tea I reckon atop a thick slice or two. www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places...

I’m using these atm, both are very fine and suitable for sketchbooking but tbh it depends what you want to achieve - even a good biro can produce great effects! And paper varies so much, of course. Just draw!!

I love drawing outside and have latched on to the Leamington Spa plein air group. All very informal, turn up, draw for an hour or so, eat cake or drink beer, go home. I’ll put the dates/times on here should anyone wish to join us, I’m sure you’d be welcome. They’re on FB but I don’t ‘do’ Meta. Pffft

Lovely friend (similar lethargy levels and cake tolerance levels) and I went to Catwalk V&A Dundee yesterday where you can put on the ‘look’ of a decade. Hilarious. Great exhibition too.

A Scottish garden; Cambo in bright sunshine today. In the shelter of the easternmost wall were highly scented roses and lilac in full bloom. Perfect.

Wood, brick, stone Cambo

A magnificent wooden door to fit a gap in a garden stone wall made of three wide, rough hewn planks of oak attached to a post with a cross piece behind to hold them in place with bolts

An old garden wall of bricks some dark grey, some bright red and others a mix of both. The mortar holding them together is a creamy colour

The stone wall to a building with large blocks seemingly hand cut. Some are honey coloured and others grey. Pale mortar between. In one block is an iron fixing and small hoop presumably for tying up a horse.

A very large piece of stone on a beach graduated in colour from very pale at the base through honey to dark grey. Curvy but striated by weather. Naturally beautiful

I have never seen so many beech masts on my tree as there are this year; it is covered in them.

Last year this little tree (growing next door and overhanging my garden) was laden with the biggest, sweetest apples, so many I could put them out onto the front verge for walkers to take. Looks like this year could repeat!

What I did this week. The trickiest bit will be removing it from the block without ripping.

Drawing 40x50cm on paper: charcoal and pastel. A landscape at Temple Balsall beneath a mainly grey sky with power lines crossing. The trees in the background are very dark as is the hedge in the middle ground but there is also an abundance of white depicting the blackthorn in bloom. The day I was there was very blustery.

Been to watch a spot of football this afternoon after spending time at a glorious Bradgate Park sitting amongst their veteran oaks. I swear they wander about at night to stretch their limbs

Beneath a bright blue spring sky I sat amongst veteran oaks quite high up overlooking Cropston Reservoir in the distance. Some of the trees are small and stubby having been coppiced in years gone by and many are split and deformed. One is reckoned to be over 800 years old
