I just read Nicked, a historical fiction novel that reads like a fantasy adventure. Incredibly fun book. Somewhere between the dog man, the gay romance, the heist of a corpse, and the fiery naval battle, you realize you’ve actually learned a great deal about the 11th-century Mediterraean.

I’m reminded of one of my favorite nonfiction books, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes by Caitlin Doughty.
