Lol. 😂 Imagine this: a sixty-pound dog suddenly deciding a chipmunk has breached the perimeter… inside an 8x8 office. It took me a few seconds to process the chaos and figure out what the hell was happening. The chipmunk survived. My office not so much.

Pride Month means Pride cupcakes, loud colours, and supporting our middle one’s fundraising efforts. Part of each purchase goes to Rainbow Railroad, which is already pretty great. But Ry is also raising funds for Lambert House LGBTQ+ Youth Center. Pride, but with frosting. As it should be.

Here’s the letter I sent if you want a starting point:

To the Speaker of the House of Commons and Officers of Parliament,
I am writing as a Canadian citizen to formally express concern regarding the recent conduct of Members of Parliament who brought and displayed religious texts in the House of Commons chamber as part of a political statement.
The House of Commons belongs to all Canadians, regardless of religion or belief. It is governed by the Constitution, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and the rules and traditions of Parliament, not by any religious doctrine. Canada is a secular democracy, and this principle is foundational to the rights and freedoms of all Canadians, including freedom of religion and freedom from religion.
It is my understanding that the use of props in the House of Commons is prohibited because such displays are considered attempts to make visual political statements rather than participate in debate through proper parliamentary procedure. These rules exist to maintain decorum, neutrality, and respect for the institution.
Displaying a religious text in the Chamber as a political prop undermines these principles. It sends a message that religious authority is being placed in opposition to Canadian law and the Charter, and it risks eroding the clear and necessary separation between religion and government in Canada.
This behaviour is not becoming of a Member of Parliament and diminishes the dignity of the House.

I am therefore requesting the following:
A formal clarification from the Speaker on whether this action violated the rules regarding props and decorum in the House of Commons.
If a violation occurred, that appropriate disciplinary measures be taken in accordance with parliamentary rules and procedure.
That Members of Parliament be officially reminded that Parliament is a secular institution governed by law and the Constitution, and that religious displays used as political props are inappropriate in the Chamber.
That House leadership reaffirms its commitment to protecting Canadian democracy, its institutions, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms from any form of religious or ideological encroachment.
This is not a matter of being for or against religion. Canadians are free to worship as they choose. However, Parliament must remain a place where laws are made based on democratic principles, evidence, and the Constitution, not religious symbolism or sectarian messaging.

Canadians expect Members of Parliament to conduct themselves with professionalism, respect for the rules, and respect for the institution they serve. I am asking for your office to ensure that this standard is upheld.
As this concerns the conduct of elected officials in the House of Commons, I believe this matter is in the public interest and deserves formal clarification.
This concern is being shared with Members of Parliament from multiple parties because the rules and integrity of the House of Commons are not partisan matters; they are matters of democratic governance.
I look forward to your response and to any actions taken to address this matter.
