Ambassador (ret.) Janet Sanderson
@jastucaz
Former U.S. Ambassador, retired career Foreign Service officer, still writing that long-delayed biography of Tudor humanist Mildred Cooke Cecil. Not as diplomatic as I once was.
It’s international Cat Day. Molly is celebrating by looking for more treats hidden by her beloved petsitter Jackie.
Molly realizing I’m leaving her for a few days to brave the Beltway again. Molly is not happy.
Molly, realizing we have another 105+ day ahead here in southern Arizona. She tired of it. So am I.
Heading up to 109 degrees today here in southern Arizona. Molly has thoughts.
Voting by mail is safe and secure. Arizona does a damn good job of ensuring that you can track your ballot from the time you drop it off to the point it’s been accepted and signature-verified. Vote like your life depends upon it. These days it does.
Sending support and respect to our Foreign Service and USAID colleagues fighting back against unlawful termination by this administration.Today’s “Missing Badge” demo at Capitol sponsored by @afsaorg.bsky.social and other organizations standing up for service. Diplomacy matters to all of us.
The innocent face of a cat who woke her person up at 5 AM for breakfast. The cat does not get breakfast at 5 AM. The automatic feeder feeds the cat at 5:45 AM. Every day. For the last three years. The cat knows this. Yet the cat insisted on waking her person up. The person was not thrilled.
Timeline cleanse: Molly says it’s time for brushing.
Think only soldiers go to war? Peace Makers, Peter Ricketts’ fascinating story of UK diplomats facing off against the enemy during WWII, will change your mind with tales of grit, ingenuity, and dedication. Some of those diplomats never came home. They also served. True today as it was then.
This a a cat check point. Relinquish your most recent cat picture on your phone. #ProofofCat
Perfect! Molly thanks you. (Or she would but she’s in her post dinner/pre-siesta nap.
A beautiful day the other day at Mission San Xavier del Bac, the White Dove of the Desert. Recent restoration has made it gleam.
How are you doing today? Hope better! Molly sends her best wishes.
Free day in London? Train to Portsmouth and visit the Mary Rose Museum. Pride of Henry VIII’s fleet, it was dramatically rescued some 500 years after it sank in the Solent. A remarkable recovery, coupled with an amazing collection of artifacts of Tudor life that we rarely see. Inspirational.
Some weekend comic relief. Just in case you thought your pet didn’t know when you were leaving town. They always know.
Molly as well. They’ll probably get together somehow and start a feline uprising.
Well, hopefully they can do a better job than I can. Over the years I’ve been owned by Siamese cats from Israel, Kuwait, and Algeria. She is by far the most obstreperous and single-minded. You go figure!
She knows it’s vet’s day and reacted accordingly. I have the scratches to prove it. How do they always know?
Molly says it’s been another long damn week and she’s hiding away in her box to recover. Can’t say I blame her.
If you’re flummoxed by Pope Leo’s visit to Algeria to celebrate St Augustine, the Algerians celebrate their link to the saint and in 2003 recognized him as part of their national heritage. This wonderful book detailing local archaeological finds associated with Augustine was issued at the time.
@bjennings90.bsky.social of The Guardian. Instant classic.
We now live in a country where, in the past 24 hours, we’ve seen the best of us in the power of collective purpose. And the worst of us in our leaders. I know which one I try to hold onto to.
It’s National Siamese Cat Day. Molly approves. (Although, to be fair, she believes every day should be National Siamese Cat Day.)
