PA Attorney General Dave Sunday joined other states' attorneys general in a letter urging Congress to maintain federal rules adopted last year that would ban the sale of intoxicating hemp products nationwide, beginning in November.

The issues page on the Stacy Garrity for Governor website is blank at the moment. A spokesman said it’a because a “technical issue with the website and it is being addressed now.” He also noted that he received 4 inquires about the page in a 5-minute span.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Stacy Garrity's thoughts below on the Pa. budget expected to be signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro later today. Her campaign did not respond to a question about the deal relying on account maneuvering to avoid pulling from the rainy day fund.

"I commend the Republican leadership of the state legislature for holding the line and protecting the Commonwealth’s Rainy-Day Fund from Josh Shapiro’s attempts to raid it to fund his liberal presidential wish list. While Josh Shapiro did not get his irresponsible budget request this year, spending in the Commonwealth has exploded on his watch, and without real discipline we are on the verge of fiscal insolvency. Next year, I look forward to working with Senate President Pro Tempore Ward and Leaders Pittman and Topper to once again making Pennsylvania taxpayers the top priority in this process, not the Governor’s national political ambitions."

I should note Pennsylvania's budget was due at the end of the day June 30th. My colleague @stephenjcaruso.bsky.social already reported that Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman (R-Indiana) told members to be ready to return as early Thursday. No details on a potential deal.

Pa.'s Planned Parenthood chapter announced today that its facilities are now once again accepting Medicaid, following expiration of a ban woven into last year's federal budget bill.

"Today is a relief for patients and for the principle that everyone deserves access to high-quality health care, regardless of their income or insurance status," said Melissa Reed, CEO of Planned Parenthood Keystone. "For the last year, patients faced the possibility of losing access to their trusted provider because of a politically motivated effort to block Planned Parenthood from participating in Medicaid. We are relieved to welcome Medicaid patients back to our health centers and remain committed to providing compassionate, expert care to everyone who walks through our doors."

Observation: GOP State Committeeman Bryant Glick is listed as the treasurer of Tyler Meyers' primary PAC against incumbent Republican state Sen. Lisa Baker in the 20th Senate District. Not sure if this would violate the state GOP's rules. Haven't heard back yet.

Mark Szybist is an energy and utility law attorney with 20 years of experience fighting for energy affordability, clean energy, and environmental protection. Immediately before assuming his current position with the Commonwealth, Mark served as a Senior Assistant People’s Counsel with the Maryland Office of People’s Counsel, where he represented the interests of residential utility customers in gas, electricity, water, and telecommunications matters before the Maryland Public Service Commission.

Mark’s specialization in public utility law followed eleven years of advocacy as a clean energy and environmental attorney, most recently as senior attorney and Pennsylvania clean energy policy director for the Natural Resources Defense Council.

Mark began his legal career by clerking for Judge Stephen M. Holden in the New Jersey Superior Court in Camden, New Jersey, then practiced consumer bankruptcy law in Williamsport before turning his career to energy with the advent of shale gas drilling in Pennsylvania. A native of Williamsport, Mark earned his J.D. from the Temple University Beasley School of Law and his B.A. from Princeton University.
