you could learn the actual chords in like 2 weeks tops. v much worth it to just learn them instead of spending over 500 money on this. also you need fewer hands for most chords than this requires, lmbo
Citizen was also mostly just floating primitives and used scanned-in colored pencil drawings to give it the look that it had. i used mixamo to rig and animate her, though I did a bit to obfuscate the stock mixamo animations via lowering the update framerate.
the HypnOS year 2000 update splash animation was made in Bryce and took 500 years to render. also back then (2018?) i hadn't *really* learned how to 3D model so the y2k Hypnospace logo seen here is just a bunch of simple overlapping shapes extruded one at a time from a .svg
Which I think was an intentional riff on the fact that my record was super Christian. I was shocked because I wasn't particularly confident in it, especially since I was up against Disasterpeace. I did spend a LONG time on it though. it has 30,000 layers per song, half of which were live/non-VST, so
I won an album of the year award in 2010 from a Chiptune blog. I was stealthily watching the livestream of the live awards show up in the projector booth of my church during a worship service. The speaker (Bud Melvin) announced my winning by saying "Hail Satan, the winner is Jay Tholen!" (...)
heck with a fancy DAC. buy used CDs and play them on this thing like me. you get almost as much bass as a phone.
when you put your own music on your kid's MP3 player and you want to make sure your kid knows it's you
it's legitimately really good so if you know nothing about Hypnospace but enjoy art-pop like The Flaming Lips or Ween or whatever definitely check it out
here's the next song. the first 3 minutes of it anyway. this was about me at like 12 years old making a game called "Mr. Grinman the Putrid Bandit" and getting mad about nobody downloading it and then God going something like "buddy, would you just relax?"
RIP Bobby Prince. this 1993 clip of him explaining the Commander Keen menu music is amazing. worth a watch even if you don't give a rip about Keen. source link below.
I've always felt a kinship with Toby Dixon, the Nidhogg 2 artist ,because he employs a similarly busy hand-pixeled style and people also sometimes find it ugly.
I was a pixel art purist at the time and couldn't settle for anything less than every square inch of ground being covered with little pock marks and details. Nowadays I kinda regret choosing that look, and reviews have even called it ugly a few times. It's excessively busy so I get it.
I love Dropsy but it had one of the worst hours worked to income ratios of anything I've ever done, including stocking shelves at a grocery store in 2005. There were 108 scenes in this hyper-detailed painterly pixel art style and I handled 100 of them. Backgrounds alone took almost two years.
I promise you nothing was shiny! I disabled all global lighting and both sprites and wall textures used a custom shader made by Ronja Bohringer. I'm extremely anal about that kind of thing and spent months dialing in the look with custom tooling.
