Excerpt from an Andre Picard Globe and Mail piece on MAID for mental illness that says:

There is a supplementary report from the Liberal Party (which seems to be penned solely by committee co-chair Marcus Powlowski) essentially repeating what’s in the main report but adding some eyebrow-raising opinions, including citing the Ten Commandments’ “thow (sic) shall not kill” and arguing that no one is being denied the right to die because they can always kill themselves, using fentanyl no less.

Taking a look at Inclusion Canada's financials for 2025. Anyone have a clue what professional fees would amount to $4 million? Why are professional fees nearly double their total wages?

In the "Report of the Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying," Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP and committee co-chair Marcus Powlowski cited The Ten Commandments and suggested people kill themselves with fentanyl. Credit to @jgdownie.bsky.social for highlighting this first.

Furthermore such sentiment would seem to span almost every culture and every religion.
"Thow shall not kill" is of course the first of the ten commandments. The sanctity of life is at the
heart of- Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism and perhaps all religions. Nor does one have to
believe in any religion to believe in the sanctity of life- it is of course the very core of secular
humanism. It remains a core constitutional principle. A state that starts tinkering with the
concept of killing being wrong, to rationalize it as "sometimes justified", is on a very dark path.

Albert Camus may be right in saying that the most fundamental question facing all of us is
whether to continue living. The decision is central to our being human, to controlling our own
destiny, to our autonomy. The option to end one’s life remains, irrespective of MAiD, readily
available in Canada. Furthermore, there are painless options readily available. One example
being illicit narcotics like fentanyl. To my dismay it is arguably easier for my teenage sons to
access fentanyl in my hometown of Thunder Bay than it is for me (a doctor) to renew my Lipitor
prescription (a cholesterol medication).

To ensure adherence with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
(CRPD), in 2025, the United Nations’ CRPD committee called on Canada to repeal
Track 2 MAiD, including the planned extension to mental illness. This is Canada’s
binding obligation under international human rights law.

Gaslighters gonna gaslight at Inclusion Canada

Me pointing out Inclusion Canada's hypocrisy of calling MAID for people with disabilities "death as their only option" while advocating to remove it as an option, someone saying they aren't advocating for a "complete ban" on MAID, then me correcting them that they are indeed advocating for a complete ban on Track 2.

It's disheartening that the decision on MAID for mental illness as a sole underlying condition is coming next week while the will of most Canadians has been ignored in the process. I wish there were more leaders at the table who had the guts to vouch for the autonomy of people with mental illness.

A clip from the Globe article that says: A new public opinion survey conducted by Nanos Research for The Globe found 57 per cent of those questioned believe it would be acceptable or somewhat acceptable for the government to expand access to MAID for people whose only condition is mental illness.
