Had the opportunity to use the new UGA Student Dining, Learning & Well-being (DLW) Bldg yesterday. Great improvement of services for students in the dorms with lovely view of campus, though I do miss Legion Pool.
Some fabulous fungi spotted in the Atlanta Botanical Garden yesterday. #Trametes #TurkeyTail
I don't recall ever noticing Unicorn caterpillar moth (Coelodasys unicornis) larvae before, but it's easy to see how they got their name. Too bad these were feeding on a chestnut tree seedling I started from a local nut I picked up last fall. I sent them packing.
Flowerpot parasol #mushroom coming up under my container-grown blueberry bush. Too bad it's not edible because they are certainly consistent at this time of year. 🍄

A few minutes of heavy rain this afternoon -- just enough to wet the soil surface -- triggered nest digging behavior in the local box turtle community. Here are just two who happened to be at the edge of the trail. 🐢

Now that they are trimmed and washed I'm particularly psyched. Caught these early, so most are still dense and meaty.
A few other mushrooms seen along the way also benefited from the rain in June. 🍄
The drought in May had me wondering whether we would see any chanterelles at all this year, but rain the past couple of weeks changed everything. Two and a half pounds collected in a few minutes on our evening dog walk.

It broke my 8-year old heart the "The Time Tunnel" only ran for one season.
Fred Gwynn (pre-Munsters) and Joe Ross in a Plymouth Savoy. What's not to like? Car 54, Where Are You?
Now that we finally got some decent rain, it looks like chanterelles will make an appearance after all.
Baby bunny is pretty bold looking to nibble the peas planted on my patio.
The bluebird of happiness? Hope it's a good omen for today's primary voting.
Venus and the Moon in juxtaposition and low in the western sky tonight.
Came across this copperhead on a trail in my neighborhood this morning. Gently relocated it so one of my neighbors wouldn't step on it, or worse, kill it. The latter is too often the reflex in these parts.
Some other interesting mushrooms out this week. Anemone stinkhorn and brown duncecap. 🍄
We don't usually see blewits in the spring, but the weather has been a bit unusual this spring. This batch from my front yard grew out from an area where I had deep mulched with Bermuda grass clippings. With some tarragon, they made great mushroom soup. 🍜
Presentation of a US flag to Dr.bGale Buchanan by a representative from Congressman Austin Scott's office.
Had the honor this morning to attend Dr. Gale A. Buchanan's exit seminar on the UGA Tifton Campus. He leaves a giant legacy at Tifton, at UGA at USDA, and on US agriculture.
