I brought a freeze dried chicken treat home for Waffles but someone whose name rhymes with ShoeFerry ate it right out of the pocket of my bag. And doesn't even feel bad about it.

I ALMOST FORGOT: Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit any time after midnight tonight

Update: I was alerted by the kind @ladycowparsley.bsky.social that there were identifying images in my pics so reposting with an update: Jose landed around midnight our time and while we haven't gotten a message from him, we are assuming he will be bounced awake by his grandkids this morning.

Jose is crouched next to Rufus who is smiling, on the other side of Rufus is the corn Jose planted, and on the other side of Jose are the lawn signs that say "Tyranny shall never prevail" and "Hate has no home here" and Chinga La Migra garden flag which is wildly popular in the neighborhood. Jose doesn't smile in most of the pictures but when I catch him with my phone camera when he doesn't think I am taking pics, he's always smiling. I think he's trying to be serious.

I miss him already. For the last few months we've been getting his groceries when we get ours and in a way it was like how Ben and I would make Kent and the animal hospital food every week. Without someone to cook/shop for, I am not sure what we'll do with ourselves. I am starting, I think, to realize that when we take care of our community, we take better care of ourselves.

Jason Varitek, on the right, the catcher and captain of the Red Sox, is mauling the face of that dope Alex Rodriguez of the MFY (mother fucking yankees) at Fenway Park. Many of us who were born into Red Sox faithful in New England see this date, and this fight, as the incident that changed the trajectory of the Red Sox, like butterfly wing breeze, that created the path for them to win the World Series in October of that same year, after 86 years, reversing the curse of the Bambino.

Baseball guys will 100% "well, ackshully" this and they can fucking pound sand. I will block anyone who shits on this day. Unless you're a yankees fan. But if you're a Red Sox fan and you don't celebrate this day, and you have the sack to come into my thread and try to mansplain me? TRY ME.

That summer was difficult because the first Mr Coleslaw and I were separated, he was living down the street at our friend's house while we did couples therapy to try to find our way back to each other. Or, I was. He, it seems, was working on an exit plan, which he would execute at the end of the summer when he texted me, instead of the woman (also a friend) he had been going out with referring to the night before. When I made a joke about it, trying not to out my own hurt feelings, he responded that he wanted a divorce. Over text.

So following the Red Sox, with my friends, at my favorite neighborhood bar...anyway, that's a whole story. someday I'll tell it in Two Chocolate Cakes. I really need a work sabbatical so that I can get some writing done.

Thank you so very much to everyone who helped raise the funds for our beloved Jose's airfare to El Salvador, his meds, and other expenses. Ben and I continue to sort out the details w/him to ensure he has what he needs but your generosity is such a gift. Here's his fav kitty-Payasito aka Clown Shoes

Payasito (little clown) is a grey and white tuxedo cat with a very small mouth and a very pink nose, and green eyes. He is sitting on the bed looking at something behind me and over my shoulder. He is Jose's favorite of the cats and when Jose spent Christmas with us, Payasito would not get off Jose's lap and so he ate with one hand petting the cat and the other hand with a fork. When Clown Shoes hears him downstairs in the basement (where Ben's office is,) he will trot down to say hi and hope for some pets.

I am so late this month for this month's Rabbit Reminder! Any time after 12 am tonight, 1st thing you say out loud --"Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit" for good luck all month long. And sometimes your rabbits are someone else's good luck, and you catch luck another month bc of the rabbits a stranger says.

Sometimes it seems that there aren't enough rabbits in the world to fix the terrible, shitty, things that people are going through, but just think of how awful it might be if none of us did our rabbits? Sometimes our rabbits we whisper first thing on the first of the month are carried by the universe to someone who REALLY REALLY needs that luck. And we trust that the universe will reward us, when we need it, with rabbits from someone else. My father would say "it all comes out in the wash."
So don't forget to say your rabbits.

We had a pretty bad microburst hit us last night and definitely lucky that there seems to be no damage to the house, we lost a big limb off the maple, and climate change storms claimed another outdoor workspace (which we prepped for the storm by lowering it to the ground, and it was still wrecked)

Waffles being stoic at the vets. He lost 4 lbs! Dr Kirk says he looks awesome! We are waiting for the all clear on his heartworm test and then he's going to get all his vaccines. Rufus is getting his ears done and he'll come back in two weeks and get his Lyme and lepto and brevecto.
