This is not the end of the fight by any fucking means. We're still waiting on a Michigan Supreme Court case. EGLE has a wastewater permit still pending. But there was no fucking reason for this shit decision save greed. So I'm gonna let myself be angry and sad a bit longer. Then back to fighting.

It is April 14th, I'm in Michigan, and I got my first lake swim in of the year. To be honest I could've gone earlier. Cold (obs) but not unbearably so at all. Anyway, lake pics. As I'm wont to do.

Apparently the man who rammed his car into the West Bloomfield synagogue lost his two kids in Lebanon to an Israeli air strike. Synagogues are not Israel. That is not an excuse. Just absolutely horrible and heartbreaking. This situation should never have happened. These kids should still be alive.

That's *better* but nothing being proposed in Michigan really qualifies. And there are environmental costs inherently still. Also completely ignoring over the data center tax breaks passed that Sen McMorrow voted in favor of.

No data center is good for the environment, but projects like this can help alleviate their neg ve effects as the demand for computing power surges globally. The largest commercial data centers - so-called hyperscale facilities can consume a city's worth of electricity, the vast majority produced from polluting fossil fuels. And with the growing uptake of artificial intelligence, they'll need even more. Electricity consumption from the industry globally is set to increase by 50% by 2027 from 2023, according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc., and a report published by the International Energy Agency in April projects power demand from data centers to double by 2030.

When it comes to data centers, Michigan should show the country how to do it right. That means:

Data center companies, not Michigan families, pay for their own energy and grid upgrades – so rates don't go up.

Data centers can't harm our water, air, or environment.

Data centers pay their fair share in taxes to fund our schools, roads, and communities.

Data centers are built with local union labor.
