I counted five hedgehogs in my garden this evening. Two tiny ones. Word must be out that there is food here. Haven't got a group photo as they seem to be independently minded. Leave food and water out, you might be saving a few little hoggy lives as the ground is so hard the cant get worms.
I'm trying to keep things less than bone dry here, putting the sprinkler on for an hour in the evening, and feeding the hedgehogs cat food, because there are no grubs or insects for them to eat.
Life at #Snodhill This is the hedgehog. He looks healthy but he shouldn't really be out and about so early. He joins the humpback rat (also out in the day)and the one legged pheasant as some of the wildlife that seem to depend on me at the moment. To be honest I could do without a humpbacked rat.
Morning everyone! Let's all have a magnificent Monday 🧡
Any ideas for interesting and hopefully delish things to do with broad beans? Oh and not necessarily together, carrot tops? #riverfordorganics
Look!!! The moon, the moon! Have you ever seen such beauty? This was last night, approaching Snodhill and home after a long drive.
Feeling pretty low and then the pheasant who has been scrounging here for a good 3 years turns up limping with a mangled foot. I feel surrounded by loss. Is nothing constant? 😭 This is him a couple of summers past:
Yesterday, if you remember was the plant sale in the village hall, and I was out of the house for all of an hour. Came back with all manner of lovely things now sitting in their pots waiting to be replanted. Today? Body says, No!
I made it to the village hall plant sale! So good to get out of the house. Came back with runners, courgettes tomatoes and herbs all ready to plant up in pots and a haul of lovely houseplants including this sweet oxalis, tell me how to look after her if you know, I am not the best houseplant mother!
I just set Merlin to the task and this is what I was listening to:
Oooh! Is it #raceacrosstheworld tonight on the beeb? Well ok then, I will turn the TV on. I was just enjoying the bonkers loud birdsong here, it is massive this eve. No cuckoos or woodpeckers yet but I am still hopeful 🤞🏼
Do not underestimate the joy that opening a window to a cool spring day can bring...
And there was a special cat too, a burmese called Mulan, she was special
I had a big love with a dog... He was my one and only...and used to get into bed and sleep.with me. He snored terribly! He was called Babaganoush.
I shouldn't worry really, my house is surrounded by fields and meadows and hedgerows and brooks... I probably live in a ecologically rich place - apart from the damage being done to the River Wye from the chicken shed waste which is over the ridge in the next valley over.
I know and now look at me, trying to save a dying sofa with elbow grease... Here is my half done half not done picture... The sad thing is that it looks the same 😂
🤔 where's that then, looks familiar...and better kept than the one on my corner!
Some small people left part of a game behind after their visit. Their mum has a zero tech policy, little does she know...
I was treated to an exhibition catalogue and a surprise gift of postcards by @ianarchie.bsky.social and I have to confess I am struggling to send them to my friends, they are so beautiful.
I know a hen isn't like a dog, or a cat, you don't get cuddles or loyalty or obedience, you do get quirkiness, side eyes and idiosyncrasies that come from a tiny brain hard wired as a dinosaur. But I am going to miss my last remaining hen. She has always been a beauty And now she is off to the vet 🔪
How are you doing Owlet? Meet Hansel as well, he's having big dreams of a world full of fat mice that are two stuffed to run fast...
Did someone say #caturday? This is Spare Cat. He turned up, moved in, got comfy, put on weight and then sadly faded away over a year and I lost him.
