JFK Jr's "mitochondria challenged" is a way to say they're fat. You can't diagnose mitochondria challenge by sight, and almost not by biochemistry. Kennedy doesn't know shit about that.
How in the world can Jr. spot Mitochondrial Challenged when it's so difficult to analyze medically. What he's saying is the child's mitochondrial (energy burning) system is challenged (can't burn enough energy so it gets stored) i.e. the kid is fat:
