It hasn’t been the most productive variety for me, but the stripey sure does look nice as a squash
I snapped this pic of a west suburbs zip code when taking out the dog last night. Highest I’ve ever experienced
Here’s the #wildfire smoke boundary as it crosses the west suburbs of #Minneapolis. Panning is from south to northeast
Our native #MN #pollinators at work. And note the chicken wire fencing to protect our coneflowers from the native rabbits…that love eating this and everything else in our garden.
First #squash of the season. Of course barring this and one other, all flowers have been male so far
Got to see a very cool hummingbird moth on our bee balm. Wish I could have gotten a better pic, but their similarities to real hummingbirds are uncanny. Always a treat to see the variety of native #insects in your garden
At my kids softball tourney in Buffalo, MN and there was a very very noisy killdeer squawking at all the kids going by a rear fence. After a bit of searching found the reason for its agitation. Probably a great place for a nest most of the time, but not during tournament weekend #birding #Minnesota
Post the best picture you have ever taken of your pet (if you feel like it):
First #strawberry harvest of the year! Only took 3 years of plant growth and about $40 worth of rabbit/chipmunk proof fencing material to grow this half pint of strawberries
Of course my daughter was reading Calvin and Hobbes and really liked this response from Calvin’s dad. So that’s always an option
I needed to do some work, but plans are impeded by the true ruler of the house #caturday
So my daughter heard I found a baby #turtle on the road and decided to go looking for her own in the pouring rain. She got very wet, but also saved all these guys from traffic
It’s baby #turtle season. Keep an eye out! Picked this painted turtle hatchling off the road while walking my kid to the bus. Let it go in the nearby marsh. How could a turtle be hatching so early you ask? Well in colder climates, eggs laid in late summer often overwinter and emerge early spring
On a related note, the cat is helping me finalize this last push of grants for current study section. It’s excellent motivation, as I can’t get up to procrastinate
Was doing some work in the bedroom chair and got up to get some lunch. I come back to this #caturday
The #cat dealt with a crisis this morning, as the kids are off from school and we were slow to get up: Do you stay awake and demand to eat? Or give in to your desire to nap? We see which won this round
Fortunately, planetary axial tilt remains a recurring phenomenon and springtime sun is finally hitting the cat condo #caturday
I can’t recall if the backlash larger over the Kanye comment? Or Obama wearing a tan suit?
