Palestinian society has lived under occupation, closures and constant attacks for decades. In Gaza, the situation is unique - something I call the "Gaza syndrome." It is an ongoing state of collective mental trauma, produced by repeated exposure to military violence within a closed, besieged space, with a constant risk of violent eruptions. In such a reality, trauma is part of daily life, and it constantly renews itself.

Apparently your apparatus isn't strong enough to do it on its own.

Fight to make the Democratic Party better. Push it. Challenge it. But don't use the Democratic Party as an Uber to get to office and then complain about the ride after you arrive.

If you're on the team, be on the team.

In the weeks after the election, liberal-hotshot-of-yesteryear Markos Moulitsas found it appropriate to crow over retired coal miners losing their health coverage from his office in gentrifying Oakland. Even today, the contempt remains obvious: Self-appointed "resistance" leader and actual flag-wearer Keith Olbermann could find no better way to insult his fellow multimillionaires Sarah Palin, Kid Rock, and Ted Nugent than by calling them "trailer park trash."
