End of tour. Orchestral concert with Stacey Kent and the Progress Orchestra under the direction of Szymon Morus at the Ladies’ Jazz Festival in Gdynia. A fun way to end a run of fun dates.
It’s the first of two concerts in Gdynia tonight. This one is the 4tet and Sunday is playing our orchestral book. A beautiful way to round out the summer tour. And as a bonus, Poland still has hole-in-the-wall shops where craftspeople fix things including analogue watches!
We are leaving Berlin for Gdynia after last night’s Stacey Kent concert at the ZigZag Festival. Great venue and people. The cherry on top of the cake was Benny the Chihuahua/Dachshund who ride with us back to the hotel after the show.
Hamburg is one of my favourite cities and so to have 2 nights here with Stacey Kent, Art Hirahara and Tom Hubbard at Nica Jazz Club is luxury. Tonight’s our last night. Next stop Berlin.
A bit left of field, but in Satyajit Ray’s movie, Days And Nights In The Forest, the middle class sophisticate female protagonist displays her copy of Indo Jazz Fusion in her record collection. The level of connection of the Indian middle class to avant garde British culture surprised me.

I know how you feel. Baltimore Orioles pass through every year. We see them for a bout a week before they carry on north. Today they arrived, noisily. I alerted the neighbors.
Doing some work in the woods today making bundles for last year’s autumn olive cropping. Nice fungus.
